Hearing beeping sounds from nowhere....

Paranormal Novice
Hello, I am relatively new to the Paracast Forums and this is my first post.

I have had an ongoing, strange occurrence happening to me on and off for years. I hear beeping sounds that seem to come from somewhere nearby me and I do not know where the sounds are coming from. Here are some of the factors involved:

- The beeps are like the sound of a digital wrist watch when it is set to chime at the top of the hour.

- The beeping only happens when I am outside (never inside).

- Usually only two beeps or a series of two beeps whenever it happens.

- I am always alone when it happens.

It tends to happen to me at night and especially if I am away from electronic or technological sources that could cause them. I don't carry anything with me that beeps or has the ability to beep.

The most puzzling thing is that it tends to occur when I am out in nature away from any possible source for it's sound. For instance, going on a hike in the woods by myself or stargazing in the middle of a large soccer field with nothing and no one around. The beeps will happen and it is like coming from somewhere very nearby, but no known cause. I am very observant and thoroughly check the entire area (including the sky and the ground around me). I've even had my ears checked by an Ears, Nose, and Throat specialist and all is good. This has happened to me dozens of times over the past seven years.

Has anyone ever heard of such a thing occurring to someone else? I do not presume that it is paranormal, but it seems highly strange to me.

Thoughts?

Yes I've heard of it. There are many theories, I actually just read a book called "UFO Highway" by Anthony Sanchez where he attributes this kind of thing to HAARP and cell phone transmitter towers. I find most of his stuff completely ridiculous myself but I've also never had the problem you described so I figured I'd mention it and maybe you could check it out and see if it fits. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum John... as to the beeps, weird! Don't know what to say about that...Any rhyme or reason as to timing? Or is it seemingly at random?
As to anything that Sanchez has to say... don't get me started!

It's your implant warning you the battery needs changing!;)

But seriously - nice that you come to the forum and bring something pretty new (well new to me) and interesting. Type of thing that I visit to read.

Either it is really happening from an external source, i.e if you were to be carrying an audio recording device at the instant you hear it, the beep would be recorded and therefore it must be actual sound waves in the air, stimulating your ears in the normal way.

If it is not an external noise that can be recorded then it has to be inside your head only, either some brain-function aberration like seeing flashes or patterns not really present or it was actually coming from some device inside your head (seriously, we are looking at any and all possibilities).

Perhaps it is solely a mental think, like tinnitus - maybe the part of your ear that takes the signal once it has been converted from a physical pressure wave to an electrical signal along the nerves - well if people can experience pain when there is no physical damage, I see no reason why perhaps the nerves in your ear/brain are sending the odd aberrant signal which your brain processes as a beep sound? Maybe you only hear it when out somewhere quiet because it is only generated when you are doing activity like walking in a relaxed state etc. It is very interesting that the beeps do not happen when you are inside.

If you do get to the bottom of this or hear of another possible explanation, do post it in this thread so the rest of us can find out too!

Welcome to the forum.

Yeah I agree 100%, which is why I included my disclaimer about his theories being completely ridiculous. Just thought it was kind of weird that the day after I finish reading his book, someone signs up to a forum I'm active in and reports the same kind of thing he was discussing in the book. I'm sure it's just a coincidence but it's interesting nevertheless.

John I have experienced that for most of my life, that and also sometimes a high pitch whine like the old tube TV sets would make when just turned on.
Over time I noticed that I heard the digital wrist watch and most other higher pitch sounds not with my ears but seemingly with my medulla oblongata.
Why I don't know, the medulla oblongata deals with the cardiac, respiratory, vomiting and vasomotor centers and deals with autonomic, involuntary functions, such as breathing, heart rate and blood pressure.
I have told my doctors about it but they say it's not possible to hear with the medulla, so go figure.
No matter how loud or how much noise there is I will still hear the sound over it
As for the old tube TV set sound that I hear with my ears, and I like most Experiencers seem to know that often signals "The Guys" are around and often precedes a sighting, an encounter or an abduction.
Are you an Experiencer, or have you ever had any paranormal encounters?
The normally start in early childhood approximately 2 or 3 before that most find it hard to remember.

Thanks for the responses everyone!

Chris, thanks for the welcome. I suppose you are referring to Anthony Sanchez's "UFO Highway"? I haven't read it yet, if that is the case. As to he timing of the beeps, yes, I have noticed that the last two times it has happened (within the past month) both times were when I was about to get into my car and go somewhere (at night). That could just be a coincidence though (but my gut tells me something different).

Decker, I have had several examinations of my ears by doctors and once by a specialist along with a comprehensive hearing test (all came back as excellent and healthy). No head traumas either. I have had a cat-scan of my head done while I was in the Air Force and they offered to do sinus surgery in 1995 when I had issues with my sinuses. Never had any beeping sounds until way after that time (I believe the first time was in 2004).

Mike, I seriously doubt that an Annoy-A-Tron follows me around (which would be more paranormal than the beeping sounds in the first place). ;)

Goggs, I have actually given the possibility of an implant some serious thought. It seems ridiculous I know, but I have had some very strange experiences in the past which lead me to contemplate the possibility of an implant. I can expound on that (with pictures) if anyone is interested.

Muadib, that is interesting, although I am sure it is just a coincidence. :)

Posey Gilbert, never had the high-pitched whine happen to me and I have no idea about the medulla oblongata. I have had many paranormal experiences throughout my life (that itself could be a thread!) and at least one obvious (to me) classical "alien abduction" experience which includes the possible implant I mentioned above. That occurred in late 1999.

Thanks for everyone's imput! I consider it an honor to be on these threads and a part of the Paracast community. I hope to hear more of your thoughts and comments!

Welcome John, never heard of an exact sequence of two beeps or a series of two beeps heard when away from any technology. I'm thinking implant but how that could be without your knowledge is another question....strange stuff man.

Okay so I experienced something very similar to what you've mentioned. Except it was three tones, all digital tho and I didn't know what to make of it, so I googled it and this is the only one that fits my experience (everything else only talks about hearing aids-which I don't have nor need) And now I'm super worried and scared. (tears up)

...(tears)

I don't want to be paranoid, I don't.. but.

Now I'm very concerned. (wishmyfriendwereontotalkto, she's alot more rational than I am.. usually)

But..

Okay so I've heard those beeps, again its three not two and my phone wasn't with me the first recent time - in fact I was in my kitchen at my sink. The only digital thing there is the clock and it wasn't that - plus it makes a completely different sound, also it wasn't coming from behind me, I wasn't sure where it was coming from. I thought at first it was inside my sink??? but its not digital at all. It made the sound when I made an abrupt movement.

The other time was just now and now I'm scared. Okay so my laptop was near by, but.. it wasn't that, I mean, it wasn't touched, I checked to see if it was trying to notify me of anything, it wasn't. It was just as it always is. The sound didn't seem to come from it anyway- more like, well again possibly to my left a bit but idk where. (tears) I don't like this...

...more so considering some of my memories. And something odd that happened recently, but I thought it was something else. (cries)

Well.. you see back from 2011 I had some memories. I thought it was something else (like spiritual-not religious, but spiritual, so I wasn't as bothered by the memories, tho I was curious/Deist). I have some pictures I drew, trying to show my memories as best I could:

**Bare in mind those depicted aren't actually faceless nor have such big heads, I don't remember any typical big headed/eyed aliens like that. However... I did see human like beings, but also some less than human looking things (possibly alien, but not your typical bug eyed things). I wasn't scared I don't think. I recently got a memory regarding something like this where I was being checked over, again I thought it was something else at the time so I wasn't scared when I was remembering it.

Often I remember for some reason being in some kinda liquid in a glass thing and a box/machine thing there at the end. (what I was trying to depict) I'm not sure I like the watery stuff or at least I remember gasping trying to wake up. I often have this reoccurring when I'm trying to srsly focus /on me/ and try to be me and I guess when I'm 'digging' (long story, just trying to be myself again)

I remember it being lab like, idk for "alien lab" like, just "lab-y" I think...
I remember the door, there was a door and a table I guess to the side. And some other equipment to the other side I guess. The person taking notes seemed nice. I'm not afraid of him. I think he had hair on his face, but it's well groomed. (not bushy)

**I thought these memories tho were just from a former life :-/

Yeah, so these memories, plus this being the only link on google that has anything similar to what I experienced is not helping >:-(
(cries)

I try not to get too much into aliens and stuff - no offense. It's curious, but I have enough to deal with.

The other weird thing is not long ago I was walking to my bathroom, or around that area, I kinda forget, but so I'm up and walking and .. there's something walking right to my back and its white and I could see it as I was passing/looking back for a moment, white and I guess kinda taller? idk, but at least white'sh. But then there's no one else besides my black cat (for good luck) and myself. I thought it was a spirit, so again I wasn't as bothered by it, so long as it's not violent and it's someone I know. ...but now I'm more concerned and I hope my friend gets on again because I'm scared and need some rational explanation

Fyi:I live in a small cheap apt, so even if I wanted to I couldn't go outside to a forest unless I could somehow afford a car. I'm a 28 yr old girl living alone with my one cat. Which makes me wonder how could any bug eyed weirdos do anything or get in anyway w.o being noticed, since I live in a small city, downtown. :-/ I don't understand and I don't know why I keep hearing those weird sounds on odd occasion.

I should start by saying that I am in no way qualified, or very knowledgeable about sound.
I am sure that some of the members* can/will do a much better job of explaining what I am trying to explain:

My understanding is that sometimes we can hear a familiar sound where it should not be.
for example I have on occasion been listening to music on my headphones, and have heard my mobile(cell phone) ring. when I check it does not display a "missed call" message and when I check the call log there is no received call. The same scenario has happened with my digital doorbell, in that I have been sure I have heard it ring, but when I go to answer it, no one is there. I asked a friend of mine who is much more familiar with audio engineering and he said that it was due to the sounds of the phone and doorbell occupying the same position in the audio spectrum, as a part of the music I was listening to.
The human brain is hard wired to recognise patterns, be they visual or sonic. Sometimes this can lead to seeing or hearing things that are not there.
It is also important to realise the brains ability to "record" and "playback" is very important as a survival mechanism, but it is not infallible.

One thing I am very conscious of is that sometimes the lack of a familiar noise can be just as profound, for example in my kitchen there is a very old clock and it has a loud ticking sound, but because I have heard it for as long as I can remember, I don't really hear it anymore, however if it stops, I can hear that it is not ticking. This would seem to go against logic but I am more aware of it (the ticking) when it is absent.

to sum up: in my opinion the hearing of beeps or ringing could be the result of the brain involuntarily replaying noises that it has previously "recorded" and is not unusual or a cause for concern.

Here's something to consider. If you're convinced it's not actually your wristwatch or cell phone that you've just overlooked some setting on, then see an audiologist. I used to play rather loud music in a rock band and have some resulting hearing damage that causes a ringing in my ears at various frequencies. Although this condition is generally perceived as a continuous sound, it's not always as loud or inclusive of all the same frequencies, and sometimes, one frequency will dominate and then cut out.

On rare occasions I've heard what I would otherwise interpret without the unfortunate benefit of having tinnitus, intermittent tones similar to that you describe. Apparently these phantom sounds can be brought on in people with normal hearing as well by changes in blood pressure, altitude, certain drugs, and certain medical conditions. Some people also claim to be sensitive to EM signals from cell towers and other devices. The prevalence of it happening out in the wild may have to do with the decreased ambient noise, resulting in the effect becoming more noticeable, combined with the effects of blood pressure from exertion and so on.

Now also having said all that, the other day I heard some beeps that were faint but distinct, and knowing the difference between phantom sounds and external sounds, it sounded to me like it came from outside near the house someplace. It wasn't a backup beeper sound, but more like the wristwatch alarm time beep, and for a moment I wondered if it had come from the stupid smart meter. Or maybe it came from one of the 3 PCs I have in the house because of some automatic update. I don't know for sure.

Dear forum gods,
Please systematically delete all copies of the Posey Gilbert flesh-tag photograph. There is nothing more disturbing on this entire forum and who knows how many threads the damn thing is in. Sweet Jesus, a thread gets resurrected from the dead and there it is again! [bats at his eyes and stumbles from the room]

Hi, I am curious as to how your cat reacts to the unusual sounds or entities in your home.

Auditory hallucination is common. Everybody hears stuff or creates sounds or voices from time to time, some people more than others, thats when it becomes a problem. Whats worrying or disturbing is when you contextualise these hallucinations e.g.. god is telling me to shave my dog, or the aliens are telling me about ecological problems created by man's inhumanity etc.. You can either work within these sounds i.e.. believe them to be something and try to control them or work with them within your own structural belief system or prescribe to someone else's such as general psychiatry which could involve drugs or talking therapy, either way you choose to take responsibility will be up to you and is equally valid depending on the outcome you want for yourself.

That's odd, I am now hearing a buzzing noise

Welcome back nameless, where have you been all summer ?

hah. keep taking the pills spooks. good to see you have outed yourself. I have keeping busy but at the moment have a stinking cold.

My tapatalk is not the most intuitive thing to follow. From what I can tell this one is pretty old.Looks as if it has been revived again. FWIW in the demonic realm taps in threes are common...just sayin'. I'm not jumping to any conclusions.

Did we hear more about this recently?

Of course sounds can be hallucinatory, but sometimes a sound can be projected and perceived as real by certain entities. One of the more common sounds are footsteps or furniture being moved when it really isn't.

The three beeps is a new one for me. Three evenly spaced tones would indicate structure or intelligence. I would eliminate all other possibilities.Things like old cell phones or stored electronics can make similar sounds when their batteries get low or when giving out codes.
