I went to the one in feb of this year (200e) and I found it genuinly rewarding.

I got a lotta stories. Most of 'em pretty great.

I met some folks I really liked - and reconnected with some researchers and "experincers" (contactees, abductees, etc).

Yes, there were some goof-balls. But, for the most part it was good.

I did NOT sit thru the Michael Horn thing. I did sit in the front row for Dan Burish (sp?) and I fell asleep.

And - If anyone has any specific questions, I'll be happy to try and answer 'em.

peace,
M!

Here are some of the GOOD things from the 2008 Laughlin conference.
=============

1) There were two guys from the Ray Fowler book THE ALIGASH ABDUCTIONS. These guys were great, and there presentation was heartfelt and riveting. (Potentailly GREAT guests on the PARACAST)

2) Mike Orahm is a very sweet guy. His story was engrossing and SO weird that I don't know what to think. I talked with him for a little while later, and he was calm and kind. I immediately liked him.

3) Joe Lewels had a presentation that really resonated with me. I talked with him later, and he seemed a little bit awkward and nervous. I'll add that I asked to video tape an interview with him, and he declined. Not a big deal, but it made him act a little different.

4) I met and had a few long chats with Jim Sparks. I'll add that he is a very nice guy. I truly believe that SOMETHING happened to him, and I don't think he is actively lying in a malicious way. He may be so freaked out and impacted by his experiences that they come out sort of mixed up. And maybe he's embellishing, or trying to find some meaning, and forcing things to fit ... I think the PARACAST is coming down too hard on the guy. It's like being mean to a wounded Viet Nam vet for telling his war stories in a way that seems too self centered. He seemed fragile.

5) Leo Sprinkle did a series of evening meetings with folks who claimed the abduction experience. I attended these, and they were singularly the most rewarding and helpful hours I've ever spent as I try and make sense of my own (hard to comprehend) life experiences.

6) Richard Dolan was super charismatic and insightful. He had an extra glass of wine before making his talk, and he kinda let himself really go-for-it. My hero.

7) I ate lunch with Jim Marrs. That guy is a delight.

8) Leo Sprinkle was wonderful. He has a way of looking at this phenomenon that is unique and optimistic.

9) I got to sit with Barbara Lamb and have a few long chats. She was enormously supportive and helpful.

10) I really liked the talk given by Delores Cannon. She is a channeler and a hypnotherapist. Both of these are extremely suspect ways of doing research. But, something about her presentation just resonated so deeply with me. I talked to her later, in person, and I found her to be a little bit dogmatic. She seemed to come across as KNOWING all the answers, and I found that a little bit difficult.

THere were some other things that were nice too. Mostly meeting pleasant people. The overt weirdness of the subject matter made any conversation wildly divergent, jumping to different extremes.

Oh, I got some good advice too. I sat briefly with Bob Dean. It was like meeting Obi Wan Kenobi, the guy exudes a lot of charisma.

I came to him asking advice, about me, and how to keep my sanity and find my way through all the weirdness in the UFO field. He told me, in his deep voice, "Keep a very open mind - AND - set your bullshit meter on high!"

peace,
M!

I have been to several of these at Laughlin, the last one was in 2004. I wish I could be as articulate as Mike C about everyone I met but not a chance.

If you haven't been to a UFO conference I would say it is worth checking out to meet people and have great stories to tell about all the other stuff that goes on during these events.

Hanging out at the late night chats at the bars, restaurants or hotel rooms are probably the most interesting aspects of the conference IMO.

I also attended some of the abductee meetings and found them less rewarding than Mike.

Take some time to get outside during this week long event. I can still hear the ding ding dinging of the casino noice if I think about it EEEWWWWW.

Oh and there are speakers too???just kidding
