8 Modern Astronomy Mysteries Scientists Still Can't Explain

I'm a member of an astronomy/SETI forum, and this link just came in. The photos accompanying the article are stunning, just gorgeous, and a couple of artist's conception pictures are of things we really couldn't have pictures of!

There's an annoying ad from a major financial house that pops up, at least it did for me, but the site assures you that by answering the question (something about how you feel about the ad, ironically!) you will not be redirected to another page, which is true, and the articles and pages come right up.

The article and pictures are very interesting.

Amazing article. I will share it with the prof I work with and my students. Think about it 10000 galaxys and each having billions of stars. The odds we are alone here in the univese..and so far we found 4 to 5 planets that may support life. I can safy say in this vast univese and most likly here in our galaxy we are not alone.

We are alone. suppose we send additional spaceships to Mars that conclusively show that no life exists on that planet. You could simply respond, “Well that’s only one planet. It’s still possible that intelligent life exists elsewhere.” No matter what sort of experiment that a scientist conducts, you could respond with a similar statement.
As Karl Popper explained, we should be skeptical of any theory that is not falsifiable. Anyway, have you any idea at all how far it is, how vast the cosmos are? No, I'm sorry but we are alone. All alone. No space ships are arriving to stop all out war. No saviors from the stars. Mankind that built the ancient wonders of the world. Mankind that came up from the mud. all alone.

I gotta go back over to the jref forum. You guys are full of woo.

Dateline 1492: Christopher Columbus wants to sail three ships to someplace called "China", ...but since I have never seen this "China", it doesn't exist, ...and we are alone.
He's full of woo.

Ummmm....yeah, I would say that one dead planet does not make them all dead. And there is no way to check out EVERY planet in the galaxy, or nearby galaxies.......so yeah, if all the ones we looked at turned out dead....we didnt look at them ALL.
Your logic kung fu very weak my friend.

That was beyond arrogant and eye ball deep in ignorance. Plus your use of logic is very weak so go on head back to the other forum for at three posts here I see it as no dead loss.

But why is your argument arrogant?

The Universe is an extremely big place with the observable universe exhibiting 100 billion galaxy's alone. Sure we could be alone as Carl Sagan said but the odds are against it.
Yes you can play games with math for both sides of the argument but to definitively state that it is all dead is to be blunt a very retarded and dogmatic stand point.
Better to take the I do not know position but be open to new ideas.
Skepticism is a good thing and I like to encourage it but don't be an ass and go over the top with it or you run the risk of making the same mistakes the religions of the world made.

Bye bye

Hey. This thread contains both things Mr Einstein thought might be infinite. But only one post of the above demonstrates the infinty he was sure about.
