Let's try to turn this into a useful discussion. In Great Britain private ownership of firearms is not allowed. (I think that's true, anyway.) How do you guys from Britain feel about that? Do you feel safer?

Its not realy a question you can put to us because by law someone can brake into your house and take what they want as long as they dont threaten you in any way!

If a bloke kicked my door in now with the mind to rape, beat or steal i couldnt hit/shoot him without the very real possability that i'd go to prision for a very long time.

This country sucks when law is involved.
 
You can own all sorts of firearms as far as I am aware. They have to be kept under lock and key mostly at ranges and clubs though, but I am pretty sure you can keep shotguns at home in an approved cabinet and so long as you have the relevant licence and the police are aware that's OK.

As far as feeling safer goes. Yes I do feel a lot safer but there is a lot of knife crime and Friday and Saturday nights in every city and town in the land there seems to be alchohol induced violence. Where I live at least the level of sometimes bare faced agression makes me think that were firearm ownership rules relaxed here we would have just as many dead young men as you guys every year percentage wise.
Main difference though might be that the cops could watch it all live with the amount of cameras everywhere.

Move to Texas. People here look at you like you're not right in the head if you don't have at least one gun. The last time I talked to my brother he was telling me about the kid of a friend of his, about 6 or 7 years old, popping a burglar in the eye with a .22 round.
