A Calm Approach to UFO Abductions: Ask Kathleen Marden

After all the controversy over the recent appearance of Dr. David Jacobs on The Paracast, we felt it was time to get a more nuanced approach to the subject.

So we've called upon Kathleen Marden to return for a segment to be recorded on Tuesday, November 24th at 11:00 AM Mountain time.

She is a professional ufologist known around the world for her work as an alien abduction/ET contact researcher, author and lecturer. Her educational background in the social sciences has shaped her interest in scientific ufology. Extensive research and investigation into alien abduction has convinced her that abductions are not only real; they are being covered up by the government.

Her interest in UFOs dates back to September 20, 1961, when her aunt, Betty Hill phoned her nearby home to report that she and Barney had encountered a flying saucer in New Hampshire’s White Mountains.

She is associated with the Mutual UFO Network, as Director of Experiencer Research and the Foundation for Research into Extraterrestrial Encounters, as an advisory board member and consultant to its research subcommittee. She is the recipient of MUFON’s 2012 “Ufologist of the Year” award. She's also written three books covering UFOs and other subjects.

Is there a calm approach to the subject? I am very skeptical of the Barney and Betty Hill scenario, in which she is billed as being as expert. So I would ask her about that as well as the methods she has used to research the subject. What does she believe is the role of hypnotic regression and - if she accepts its use - why does she lend it credence in light of the research that has been done on it and the problems associated with its use in other contexts (such as satanic ritual abuse)? What corroboration does she look for?

What does she consider "scientific ufology" to mean.

Does she believe - as has been said at some experiencer groups - that interest in the phenomenon may well indicate you have hidden memories?

As well as the usual questions about evidence of a government coverup.

Looking forward to next weeks episode..
Who picked up the phone at your family home when Betty called in 1961?
Any short answer advice for staying young and vibrant?

The January 6, 1976 Stanford, Kentucky case involving Mona Stafford, Louise Smith and Elaine Thomas has always appeared impressive, though not that well known. It received a lot of press coverage at the time it happened, but not much attention in the years since.

What are your thoughts on the case?

Q. I'm assuming that you believe alien abduction is objectively real and not merely some psychological manifestation. If that assumption is incorrect, please elaborate on your actual position, otherwise, what specific key examples of evidence in your research has impressed you the most and led you to believe?

Q. I'm not aware of any direct and relatively objective evidence in the abduction field, something equivalent to a radar track. Alleged implants aren't direct evidence. Neither is hypnosis assisted recall. Neither are drawings like star maps. Neither is alleged trace evidence. Is there anything I'm missing?

I heard about this case also, any thoughts?

Instead of solely performing hypnotic regression, have you tried to wire up an abductee's house (with their permission) to obtain evidence of the "aliens'"existence?

1. Are you aware of any encounters involving mystical or archetypical entities? (as opposed to space aliens)
2. Has hypnotic regression ever uncovered actual mental illness in a claimed abductee?

I think you'll all be impressed by Kathleen's circumspect approach to handling research, particularly hypnotic regression. This is a very different approach than that taken by a certain abduction researcher whose appearance on The Paracast has attracted on such a polarized response.
