An Outsider's Perspective

Paranormal Novice
I just thought i would share a few thoughts and views on this phenomenon from the perspective of someone who has never had a paranormal experience of any kind, except for a possible ghost sighting, which i dont really count. In contemplating the idea of UFOs i have realized that there is truly something going on, which im sure everyone here would agree with. In realizing this im struck with the dilema that the realization of the phenomenon in and of itself means nothing. Im sure this is different for someone who has actually had an experience. I would imagine that a sighting or an encounter would have great meaning to the experiencer, but as a nonexperiencer i have no reference whatsoever to relate to that meaning. It's been said numerous times on the paracast that the experince is so far removed from anything we would encounter in day to day life that to comprehend it is almost impossible. I really relate to this notion. I cannot even begin to wrap my head around what it would mean to have a sighting, and ill even take that a step futher as to say that i don't believe i will ever have a sighting. the reason i say this is that, i see somewhat of a trend when it comes to this. On one hand there are individuals like myself, like Gene, like the fellow who apeared on the show a while back who was involved with ATS, that have a strong intrest in the subject but have never had an experience. On the other hand there are individuals like David and Jeff Riztman who seem to be somewhat of a lightning rod for this sort of thing. I think there may be some kind of clue in this, although i cant be sure what that clue might be. I find that the fact that some people are somewhat of a lightning rod for this phenomenon to work against the idea that these are simply aliens visiting earth from some far off unknown location. I find it hard to believe that aliens would be coming back to check on specific individuals throughout there lives. Doesnt it seem strange that people would have multiple experiences? I relate it to winning to lottery multiple times. It just doesnt seem probable, seeing as these sightings are somewhat rare. I remeber Jeff Ritzman saying, on his first apperance on the paracast, something like "if people really want to have an experience whatever the force is behind this, it will seek you out" I really question that. I would be curious to hear Jeff elaborate a little more on this idea because maybe i just missed the point there. Im just curious if any of this strikes a nerve with anyone, or if you agree or disagree with any of this. ive spent a lot of time contemplating these things and when i try to bring it up with my friends they are quick to dismiss all of it :D so i thought i would bring some of these ideas to the forum.

Good comments. I think many people feel the same way.

In fact, were I to have had an experience, my worldview would be forever changed. Imagine viewing the phenomenon in person, being a part of a small group, united in no way save for the wonderful and rare event unfolding before them.

Its a large and strange world. In 2007 a prehistoric frill shark was discovered off the coast of Japan. And while the video can be easily viewed on YouTube, it made only a momentary appearance on the high-tech, global bandwidth. Sad and unfortunate, since the frill shark was not only thought to have been extinct, but extinct for millions of years.... with many intelligent and well-read people exclaiming in many thoughtful ways why it could not possibly have survived to current day. Yet it did; yet it has.

But it only received a passing mention.

I suppose that those of us who have not had a close encounter would do well to appreciate those who have.

It is always a difficult endevor to be the odd man out, the one who was paying attention, the one who was watching, only to be penalized for having shown interest.

Nice post.

No. Well, the subject is strange, but if you mean doesn't make sense, or unlikely, I'd disagree. If that doesn't make sense, then humans capturing, studying, tagging and releasing other animals makes no sense.

yeah i see what youre saying stillborn. and i can see how that would kind of make sense in abduction cases, which i believe the vast majority of can be explained in other ways other than alien contact. but what about the many people who have reoccurring sightings that dont involve abduction. there are plenty of cases where that is the cases it seems. and i dont believe that it is because their memory has been surpressed in any way.

Well, some of those people you mentioned are frauds and are lying.

I do know of some people that have been struck by lightning, say, 7 times. This seems unlikely, but can occur.

Maybe give some examples of people who've had many ufo sightings, but haven't been abducted, or close to someone who has. A couple people come to my mind, but these are people who might be hoaxers, or, spend a lot of time looking for ufos.

I've had several ufo (by definition) sightings btw. I'm not convinced any of them was something "alien", only recognize it's possible. I'm not sure what I saw. I guess my sightings could fit in the "insufficient info" category. If I was up closer, I may have been able to give it an identification. Anyway, one of the reasons for my possible sightings is that I actually looked for them. I spent a lot of time looking at the sky years ago.

Three of the most intense experience I've had occurred with the same person. It is hard not to suspect that is more than a coincidence. Two were UFO encounters and one involved telepathy and some sort of very large animal.

I really hope you have talked to Gene/Dave behind the scenes for the next Paracast listener interview. You make so many references to intense experiences that Im just dying to hear you talk about em.

As someone that has had five possible sightings, I often forget that some people have never had an experience.

I feel that the only reason I have had my sightings is that I spend a lot of time stargazing, its a habit of mine.

Maybe that's what Ritz was talking about, if you just spend more time looking for something, you're bound to find it.

As far as the feeling you get when you see it, it really depends on what kind of person you are. On two of my sightings, I had the overwhelming feeling that they were announcing themselves, and two of them were so fast that I wasn't even sure if I saw them. You can check out my sightings in my thread titled "my experiences". I'm too lazy to link you to it right now, but if you really care, you'll find it.

None of my sightings "changed my life" in the sense that I could not wrap my head around what happened. I'm completly satisfied having no fucking idea. Conversly, if the sightings/ experiences had been more graphic, ie. abduction or a landed/crashed craft, I'd probably have a different mindset as I'd know exactly what I had seen and I'm not sure how well I'd handle that, probably want to hitch a ride to betelgeuse.

I can only imagine how powerless you'd feel towards everything if you had actually been abducted. I'd end up sitting on my porch with a shotgun.

David gave me a call once and caught me at a really bad time. He probably thinks I'm a rude jerk.
