She just returned with a small mammal (bunny or rat) and is about to eat it and then feed the babies. I've just started watching this but have read that her mate usually flies in food regularly. He must have been detained.

Special event in the owl nest -- the papa owl flies in with a mouse that's consumed whole by the first-hatched owlet, Java (a milestone for her). It's lovely to watch the mama owl (Mrs. T.) encouraging her to do this. Also to see Mr. T. affectionately nuzzling Mrs. T. before he flies off to capture more provisions. I may be romanticizing this; I think he's just handing off the mouse to the mom. Still, they're marvelous.
