any serious research being done?

Free episodes:

Not in the paranormal, because the term just represents something that is currently beyond our own understanding. This of course is the norm in science, since there are always questions to be answered. Serious researchers will gravitate toward substance, theory and data and move away from idle speculation, new age beliefs, and shy away conspiracies (not that they do not exist). There are serious researchers both present and past regarding the phenomena of UFOs or UAP, since there's nothing inherently "supernatural" or even "paranormal" about the notion of other beings possibility visiting this world. Evidence, however is a whole different story and their are individuals who think we have a "mountain of evidence" to support the hypothesis that some UFOs are not from this world (ergo from another). However the task of pulling together information from multiple witnesses and correlating it to whatever physical trace information, radar information and other accounts or narratives that are similar is quite difficult and some might even say impossible.

Let me be clear, often people naively lump all paranormal (i.e. PSI, ghosts, UFOs, abductions) together into the same category and assume a singular source for all of them without going into any kind of explanation why they think the phenomena are related (although some have attempted a psychological unified theory)--this of course is like hitting a pile of tacks of varied orientation with a sledgehammer and hoping they all stick to the surface. This is not real science or inquiry, but a fantasy proposed by individuals who like the unknown encapsulated within a nice little basket.

Usually its the one's who wish to get books published to forward such travesties of (il)logic in order to appeal to like-minded individuals who don't mind spending their money on a book that wraps everything into one package.

I would say that some of the research done by Dr. Michael Persinger spills over into the realm of the paranormal. He is a proponent of ESP, at any rate.

In a field over run with fraud and hucksters any serious resachers left in the realm of the paranormal?

I suppose that depends on how you define "serious" and "research". I'm confident that there are people who are genuinely interested enough to be considered serious. I would also contend that anyone engaged in studying the paranormal is doing a form of research. Boomer mentioned Persinger. I've seen the skeptics take plenty of potshots at him, but he's has done some interesting work on how EM fields affect perception. Persinger might also make an interesting guest on the show.
