The financials for the first quarter of the 2012 fiscal year are in, and they blew away the estimates across the board:

Note the higher-than-expected iPad sales, despite the supposed competition from the Amazon Kindle Fire.

The Fire seems to be an "in house" deal and not really a competitor. The Nook just doesn't seem to be moving with anything comparable lately. I remember a few years ago I heard there would be many cheaper powerful tablets coming within a year to compete with Apple. Hmmm, wonder where they are?

Apple buys more semiconductors than any company on the planet. Nobody can beat their economies of scale. Apple has plenty of room to reduce prices if needed. But that hasn't been necessary.

You are correct Gene. I don't think they will do it until it becomes necessary. By the way, have you heard the story of Steve Jobs last words? According to family members he brightened up and said "Wow!" That is so cool and I hope it's true.

I heard that; it came from Jobs' sister, according to a story in The New York Times. Why am I not surprised?
