I’m probably going to wish I’d just kept my mouth shut, looked the other way, and pretended that I hadn’t seen the above video Mr. Biedny recently posted at Paracast TV, but I just can’t.

Is there just something wrong with me, or does anyone else find the “Sell the Vatican, Feed the World” video to be outrageously offensive? Why was it ever posted? What’s its purpose? Is it supposed to be entertaining? It’s certainly not meant to make a meaningful contribution to any kind of conversation, here or anywhere. The things this Sara personality says are so hateful, so ignorant, so bigoted, and I really would expect people here to be above that. It isn’t funny, clever, or cute. It’s vile and reprehensible.

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: I grew up in a rural area surrounded by Amish farmers and the descendents of poor Irish homesteaders. My Irish ancestors built the little Catholic parish that was the center of our community. Everyone knew everyone, and our only regular contact with the outside world came through the newspaper and television. Many of you might have considered us “white bread”: backward, unsophisticated, pitifully homogenous, and boring. But in all my years growing up like that, and not always feeling happy about my circumstances either, I NEVER heard a single one of my relatives, neighbors, or fellow church members dare to utter the kind of ignorant, hateful, slanderous speech that that video contains and which I have seen in other posts by people who should know better.

Who are the real bad guys?

Okay, now let’s see the kind of path this goes down …

You are being too serious. I am Roman catholic myself. Well the catholic church has done many good deeds in the past, which simply can not be thrown to the wayside, however it has been well documented change and real change does not happen readily or easy within the catholic church. hundreds of thousands of people in Africa have died due to the Aids and The Roman catholic refuses to allow condoms be used. The man or women who has more, and helps the poor is more welcome in heaven, than a man/or women and wealthy and helps nobody. This a something Jesus said.

The Vatican does help the poor and i see your point. It countries who have the wealth, and those richest countries have often been slow to give more to countries that suffer the most.

So it probably our fault people do not eat and we probably need to stop blaming others, and give something as individuals which hopefully can make a difference to someone.

Frankly, I personally did not take offense to this. In fact, I have often wondered if the Vatican (I was raised Catholic) would sell the artwork it has stored in it dusty back rooms how much good the cash proceeds could potentially do for those laboring under poverty.
