..... "You Cant Tell the People" by Georgina Bruni. This is of particular interest to me as the twin bases of Woodbridge and Bentwaters are not really that far from where I live. I never realised how complex the case was, how close it came to dissapearing into obscurity or just how many people were involved in it. I havent been able to put the thing down since I got it at the weekend. Very impressed with it.

I was actually very fortunate as I went into a local charity shop and found not only "you cant tell the people" by Georgina Bruni but "above top secret", "Alien Base" and "Alien Liason" all by Timothy Good and "The Roswell Incident" by Charles Berlitz. :)

Ooo, all those books, lucky you. Never having visited that part of the country, I'm afraid the only things I know about Norwich are Alan Partridge and Sale of the Century ("The quiz of the week!") Looks like its charity shops are interesting. All we get in ours are antimacassars, (well it is Harrogate!)

I'll try and get, "You Can't Tell the People" if you reckon it's worth a look.
I remember years ago, when the book first came out, Fortean Times gave it an iffy rating - then again I find FT's coverage of most things ufological somewhat dismissive.

I've just finished reading, and would recommend to you, a book called, The South Shields Poltergeist. It's about a poltergeist. In South Shields. Actually, it's compelling a read if you want a change from those saucers.

Thanks for the heads up on "the south shields poltergeist" - Not quite so local to me, but heck, its the east coast, so its all good :). I think if you dig around the bookstores enough, you can generally find books for your own area covering all sorts of strangeness :S

"you cant tell the people" even goes back to odd things that happened during top secret military research at orfordness and , radar and "over the horizon" tests some of which apparently resulted in highly localised freak weather. There was apparently a series of ufo radar sightings made during august 1956 at USAF bentwaters and lakenheath.... this was the same month that orfordness tested its most secret atomic device. Interesting book imo as it gives lots of background info about the area, bases, event and aftermath.

I'm working my through Robert E. Howard's original Conan the Barbarian and Soloman Kane stories courtesy of the Gutenberg Project !

I managed to pick up a cheap copy of "You Cant Tell the People" by Georgina Bruni on eBay a few months ago. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in the Rendlesham case. It's free of woo-woo crap, and has something very interesting to say about the then British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher's stance on the UFO subject. The book's title is part of what Thatcher intimated to Bruni on the subject. Sadly, Georgina Bruni is no longer with us.

aw, I didnt know that.

I agree, it is woo-woo-crap free. Its also a really good investigative book imo with plenty of background info detailing the area's prior weirdness and history. There was definately something that happened at the base, that much is agreed upon, but exactly what that was is uncertain (which I guess describes most such cases)
