Nothin' to see here
This morning Kevin Rudd (Prime Minister) finally announced the details of the national broadband network. Initially open to the private sector to submit proposals, the govt has decided to build the thing itself over the next 7-8yrs.
Instead of 12mbit 'fibre to the node' system that was initially proposed, the network will now be a 100mbit 'fibre to the home' system which is over 100x faster than current technologies.
Initially set to cost around 10bill, this network will end up costing around 43billion, and will also create 25k jobs every year until its built. Its the biggest infrastructure project in Australian history (even bigger than than the famous 'Snowy mountain electric project'.
Quite amazing really.
