80 kilometers an hour for an hour on a litre of water.

fair dinkum id turn my gas guzzler into garden furniture and take the money out of the bank and buy one of these ..........

bailing out the big three would be like bailing out the typewriter manufacturers when the PC came along.

if you do bail these manufacturers out, id be insisting they look at moving to new technology as part of the deal

Bah, Humbug!!

How many times have we heard about this type of vehicle that runs on water only?? I appreciate the post, but think that this is garbage. They won't reveal details on this revolutionary product which automatically raises concerns. Sure, maybe they wouldn't want anyone to steal the idea even though it could be rightly protected. This is probably some battery operated vehicle and we won't hear another thing other than perhaps court cases taking this product to actual task. My understanding is that this is not even possible without breaking certain physical laws.

That said, let the auto companies fall. Things will get worse, much worse. But the fact is that the big wigs there just don't get it. They are probably fueling their personal jets to fly across country to meet with AIG for some massage work.

We gave Wall Street 770 Billion Dollars, plus another 660 Billion in Liquidity for NOTHING in return.

35 Billion to car manufacturers is a GOOD thing for the simple fact that they produce a product that generates revenue, and has real accountability. We literally threw away nearly 1.6 Trillion Dollars to the Financial sector, and got absolutely NOTHING for it. What's worse, is that the companies we THREW money at on Wall Street, pissed away portions of that money on bonuses for the CEO's who ran their respected companies into the dirt.

The Car makers have a payment plan they have to meet. Wall Street Oddly Enough DOES NOT.

I'd rather piss away 35 Billion dollars on companies with real assets, and a plan, than faceless corporations who are still holding the credit and money back from the people who need it the most.

Definitely true. It just pisses me off that the CEO's seem to have little clue when it comes to accountability and expenditures. They didn't even have a plan when they went to Congress. Flying to Washington in several private jets begging for money. I was skeptical about the "other" bailout because of the reasons you cited. (And then on side note AIG gets federal money and spends half a million on vacation)?? Where is this money actually going?? Apparently not to the people that need the credit or anywhere else useful.

Isn't it due to the companies(both mortgage and auto) poor practices for failing?? And my guess is that the auto industry will be back in no time wanting more. Maybe everyone else too.

I'll be honest, I don't have any type of in depth knowledge of this whole thing and I'm probably talking over my head, so thanks for those comments.

Here's the thing - the market value of Ford Motor Company is around 6.5 billion dollars, GM (once the biggest corporation in the world) is just over 2 billion. So why should we bail these morons out? For a lot less than the money they're asking for, we could simply buy them out, own them outright, fire the useless white executive parasites (anyone seen the photo of the Ford CEO? He looks like a heroin addict, seriously), and convert them to next-gen companies making hybrid vehicles and advanced tech. WHY is this not being explored? Would you loan $50,000 to someone with $5000 of collateral? Does that make any sense? I think not.

It also made news here that one of them had dealerships offering a buy one get one free (for an extra dollar) deal.......

litterally giving the product away.

id be furious if my Govt was giving my money to a manufacturer who then gave the product away..........

We tried something along those lines with a company called Petro-Canada. It used to be owned by the Canadian taxpayers. That was when we had a prime minister who believed Canadians should be in charge of their own resources. He got turfed, eventually, and we don't own Petro-Canada anymore. They own us, now...
Oil at less than 44 a barrel, and we still pay over 75 cents for a litre, which is a bit less than a quart. Our taxes on the gas don't make that huge difference.
Also, our Big 3 are looking for money, too. After seeing how they reward those with the biggest fingers in the pie, why the hell should we give them more?
We have been giving them loans and loan guarantees for years that I can remember, and each time it is supposed to be for the last time.
Why should they get all the breaks when so many regular folks are out there, working their asses off for minimum wage at two or three jobs just so they can pay the rent and feed their kids? I don't see the government giving them a raise in the minimum wage, or making rents fair.
Things need to change, both above and below the 49th.
Long live the revolution, and I hope it comes soon.

Now that's a good, sound business proposal. It certainly makes more sense than anything I've heard coming from Washington or Wall Street.

I'd say Biedny for president, but he's obviously way to smart to ever want that job.

I enjoyed the Michael Moore recent interview on the auto bail out.

what he said ^ lol

now is the perfect time to move from gas guzzlers to alternatives, what better time to retool these industrys than now ?

but im reminded of a story i read in the late 80's about a japanese car manufacturer, who robotised the factory all 4 hectares of it, massive factory. the major savings gained in doing this wasnt the payroll costs.

it was the lighting bill..................

thats where they saved the most money . the robots all worked in the dark, repair men would light up the needed walkways and use a torch to service malfunctions. apart from that the robot welders and assemblers worked away in pitch blackness.

Now would probably be a good time to start breaking out all that research and technology they've been hoarding over the years in order to preserve their gas guzzler monopoly.

Handing them money to go back to producing the same cars they've been making all along would be throwing money away.

Here's something I don't get (and I'm being quasi-facaetious here): If the first bailouts were to the banks, why don't the car manufacturers go get loans FROM THE BANKS?

I want to know which mod edited my post, and doesn't know how to fucking spell.

Some fucking idiot decided to take a chunk out of my post, and instead of using the word THREW, put THROUGH in there. Morons make those mistakes, I do not.

Whoever you are, I changed my post back to what it was. Learn to fucking spell before you go editing ANYTHING I post.

It should say who edited your post at the bottom. But since you edited it, now it will say you. I didn't touch your post. That leaves 3 others unless Rick came back. 2 of them being the hosts.

I didn't see who edited it. I was mad as hell that some retard couldn't run a spell check or a grammar check when using THROUGH, instead of Threw.

Everything I write, I save to my hard drive as a Word File. I was pissed, and continue to be angry that some jackhole would edit a post of mine, and then fuck up and not know which word to use.

There's a chance I hit edit instead of quote. But that wouldn't explain how your word got changed. I also don't see a reply by me to your post. So I'm just as puzzled as you. Maybe the others can shed light on it.

I rarely, if ever edit people's posts unless it's to remove spam links or delete double posts.

Is there a program that checks grammar? Didn't know that.

Sad the shit has to hit the fan before serious talk of change by the critical mass. Maybe some good will rise from the ashes. This is me being hopeful, and perhaps naive though.

What is it anymore?

Before bailing out an auto company, I think we should have first defined what exactly an "auto company" is:

A CEO* and a team of robots.

*Probably friends of Bush.

What is it anymore?

In Vancouver, BC, a homeless woman burned to death trying to keep warm in her shopping cart. Police and EMS had talked to her throughout the night, trying to get her into a shelter. She refused, for whatever reasons, to go. Some folks have been quoted as saying they don't feel safe in some of the shelters.
In any case, this woman is dead, likely because our society does not have the resources needed to deal with the mental issues many of our street people deal with.

WAIT, we DO have the resources, we just don't have the FUNDING! But we can find money to bail out companies that have been mismanaged? Give more to the shareholders in their dividends? The CEOs and their stock options? and their multi-million dollar yearly salaries?

Where is the sense in that? Standard reply going back to biblical times: we will always have the poor among us, and up to modern times: let them get a job, you cannot fix everybody, yada yada yada.

merry Christmas to all of us dumb***ks for letting this kind of crap happen in the first place. we deserve it for being such gullible idiots and letting the government be responsible for more and more of our daily choices.

sorry, just getting really p***ed off about how the priorities in this world are so off-kilter.
