starlings are pretty cool birds. i used to shoot them until i studied them a little more. there were only 160 original starlings brought here to populate Central Park as song birds. The guy that convinced the people in New York to bring them here trained one to say its own scientific name in Latin. I have heard them mimic hawks as well. when nest building they know how to weave about 8 different prairie grasses together so that they chemically bond and produce a natural fumigant that keeps mites out of their nests. contrary to popular belief they are not a "dirty" bird, they are quite clean.

These birds were just found this week though right?? I know some of the other mass deaths happened weeks ago, but this event started dropping birds on Monday I believe. Still, they might have sent out a notification to places like Animal Control and the like to give them a heads up. .... . or rather a "keep heads down".

I know I should probably post this on the GW thread, but it's interesting that you mention cow farts and GW.
Up until a couple hundred years ago, wasn't the planet covered with rumintes? Like the buffalo that used to cover entire states with a herd, just to name one species. I would have thought the entire atmosphere would have smelled like one big methane laden fart with so many grazing flatulating vegetation digesters.

Back to the birds, I agree that poisoning doesn't account for all the opther animal deaths worldwide.

Look at the Australian floods and major recovery work. Earthquakes in Pakistan.
Then the World wide dieing off animals such birds, squids, octopus, fish etc not just USA.
 
i call bullsh**. the feds are covering up. if it took them that long to come up with an explanation, it means they never had an explanation to begin with. if it was truly them poisoning the birds merely to thin the populations, they would have come out about it sooner. like umm... within the first WEEK. however, let's also remember that the birds weren't the only animals to die. there were animals all over the US with large numbers of deaths. fish, birds, etc. the birds was the only popular animals spoken of in the news. and so they talked about the birds since most people only know about the birds. i think it's something else. this is probably an attempt at disinformation in order to cover up the real explanations.

Well, if the Feds felt the need to half-ass cover something up, or even to sow confusion about something, I'd guess that "something" was pretty important. Hmmmm, ... now what could that be?

The explanation and the animal deaths really bother me...what the hell is killing these things? The poisoning explanation by our government is as big of a joke as LBJ's Gulf of Tonkin resolution and WMDs in Iraq. Our government is really bad at lying...
