Body swap research shows that self is a trick of the mind

Free episodes:

Actually it doesn't show anything of the sort - it shows that the perception of which body parts are ours is if you like a trick of the mind. Associating that with "self" is a red herring dredged up because that's the sort of thing that reductionist psychologists want to find (obviously they're part of the infamous International Buddhist Conspiracy TM:)).
But really there's nothing new here: the effect has been known since experiments with telepresence over a decade ago.

(And now I have to apologise for this Hippy interlude):

From the Moody Blues, "In the Beginning"...

First Man:] I think, I think I am, therefore I am, I think.

[Establishment:] Of course you are my bright little star,
I've miles
And miles
Of files
Pretty files of your forefathers' fruit
and now to suit our
great computer,
You're magnetic ink.

[First Man:] I'm more than that, I know I am, at least, I think I must be.

[Inner Man:] There you go man, keep as cool as you can.
Face piles
And piles
Of trials
With smiles.
It riles them to believe
that you perceive
the web they weave
And keep on thinking free.

Here's a trick I learned from Salvador Dali.
Start with three cooked fish eyeballs. Suck of the gelatinous outer layer, saving the inner gristly sphere. Put two of the spheres on the the fingers of one hand and hold them directly in line with the pupil of each eye. When you line them up, one with each eye, it will visually appear to be a single ball.
Between the thumb and finger of your free hand, roll the other ball. It will give the sensation that you are holding two.

You're right. The use of "self" was probably due to the journalist's own misunderstanding. The "Self" is still there, it's just getting confused about whose body is part of its experience and whose isn't it.

Yeah, I had to read this shit I posted 3 times and was still like, HUH? No, I get what they are trying to do, but then I gathered what they think they are doing and I vomited. But, I thought, maybe I'm missing something, so I posted it.

They showed that the mind can be fooled. BUT, if the mind can be fooled, what makes them think they aint being fooled by their own mind which can be fooled? Hope that made sense.

I don't piss on experiments that they are doing btw. I am pleased they are doing them. But to get all cocky, is well, not for me. Believe it or not lol.
