Boeing just patented a laser-and-nuclear driven airplane engine. I'm curious to know if they actually have a working engine, or if it's another junk patent.

"Boeing's new jet engine works by firing high-power lasers at radioactive material, such as Deuterium and Tritium."

The laser fusion engine looks like one of those things that are straightforward in concept but very tricky to make a reality. Still--very cool. And Boeing must have some degree of faith in the idea inasmuch as they took out a patent.

Looks like a bad week for China for both economic and meteorological reasons. And in today's interconnected world, what goes around certainly comes around.
