I learned a little about this broad subject back when I was brewing beer as a hobby, but really only scratched the surface.

There is mild debate from time to time as to whether types of plant matter from which adult beverages are fermented and produced have any particular effect whatsoever on psychotropic properties of the end product. Is wine induced intoxication different than a buzz from a heavily hopped beer or from gin containing Juniper berries? I think more research is needed.
