Sorry guys, maybe this doesn't belong here but I know there are some technologically savvy people on this board. I recently installed a new hard drive because my other was fried.

I can no longer see embedded youtube videos. There is the title and a black, blank screen. I'm unable to do anything. This only happens with the embedded links here and on blogs, etc. But I can go to Youtube.com and watch them fine. I don't know if this has to do with my new hard drive (which I believe everything is updated) or another problem altogether. Any help or advice??

Thanks

If you are using a Microsoft os, I suggest uninstalling Java, then doing a clean reinstall of the latest package from Sun.

Download Free Java Software - Sun Microsystems

If that doesn't fix the problem, try reinstalling Adobe's Flash.

Adobe - Adobe Flash Player

Switching from Internet Explorer 7 (shudder) to Firefox as your primary browser couldn't hurt, and will give you access to lots of free multimedia plugins as well.

Firefox Browser | Upgrade to the latest version of Firefox | Free Download

Hope this is of help.

Although I realize many of our embedded videos depend on Flash, it is probably the number one source of browser crashes. Seriously.

Oh yes! I've had constant problems with Firefox 3 since both Flash and Shockwave were updated a few months ago. Firefox was my favorite browser. Not any more :frown:.

Siani raises a legitimate point. The problem is due to Firefox's method of online updating and installation upon restart, which can often write errors to the registry that can effect an application's ActiveX access (among other things), but it's worth the effort of correcting the problem for the benefits offered:

If the slobs at Microsoft were as commited to their product users' welfare as they were to integrating what amounts to DRM malware in their klunky operating systems, we'd all be a lot happier. Maybe we won't have to deal with Byzantine registry based systems after the revolution, but I wouldn't hold my breath.....on either happy event.
