Chasing UFOs - National Geographic

This has got to be one of the most ridiculous trailers for a UFO doc I've seen:

When first watching it I was thinking it must be a joke, that at any moment the narrator would chuckle and say, "No, we aren't going to be that kind of show." But it never happened. Gotta' admit though, that girl is hot. But I guess that's the point.

OK, here's the deal. We have one of the co-hosts of "Chasing UFOs" on our show next week. But he's also someone most of you recognize, James Fox, who was responsible for a great UFO documentary, "I Know What I Saw." So even if you're not into reality shows, he's someone worth listening to.

I'll put up a Question Bank thread for him shortly. But, regardless, don't blame him for a network's trailers.

Yeah, I recognized him the second time I watched it. I don't blame him. If you want to do a show about UFOs or the paranormal nowadays producers demand that it be ridiculous. But my goodness, that trailer takes the cake. It looks like a video game.

After seeing the trailer, I do NOT want to watch it.

Meh, I'll still watch it even if it is silly. It's not like there's any better ones to watch instead. But I can see this trailer having that effect on people. Nearly all of the comments to it at youtube are negative. Hopefully it won't be as bad as the trailer (How could it possibly be?). I sure miss stuff like Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World and In Search Of.... Those were shows.

I'll keep an open mind, and will not blame James Fox for that awful travesty.
But I do have to agree with Sean and Pix, it's just bad.

My god, the marketing department over at NatGeo TV really needs to have their heads examined. Could they sensationalize the shit any more? I guess this is the new XTREME!!1 UFO hunting show.

OK, I've opened a Question Bank thread for Fox. But don't forget that he isn't involved in the publicity campaign. He's basically hired help, and let's talk to him about the show's content and his own work. Since the show isn't debuting until the evening of June 29, 2012, I don't think anyone here has seen it as of this date. I have a DVD of two episodes that I'll discuss during the show.

Filmmaker James Fox Returns to The Paracast | The Paracast Community Forums

Yeah, the trailer comes across in Buffy The Vampire Slayer format. But I certainly wouldn't hold Fox responsible and I always look forward to his work.

Aw jeeez. That's the reason why I gave up on TV entirely. OK, I'm not posting this in the questions thread, but I do hope Mr Fox still reads it. Please, don't do weekly TV shows. They are bound to get crappy, even if the actual show is not as bad as this trailer seems to imply. Please continue making good, honest, well researched non-sensationalist documentaries.

I think the trailer is just a dramatized opening sequence for the show. You probably will see that every week at the beginning of the thing. No way will I miss it. I'm a sucker for anything with a flying saucer or a monkey in it.

i will watch it as well. but the people that made the intro should be fired. it SUCKS.

i live around the amish. interesting people. many years ago i buried a secret telephone line out into the middle of a BIG woods for a amish guy. he camouflaged it so no one could see it. a friend of mine used to provide stud services for a couple families. 50 bucks a shot. the are starting to use small gas motors for various things on their farms. they will gladly accept rides in cars to go to town and they do not use deodorant.

i should ask them about ufos and see what they have to say.

Well, I managed to watch most of the "Chasing UFO's" show last night.
It was a miracle I kept my supper down. It was physically painful to watch! It was so HYPED it made me cringe.
That show represents everything I hate about paranormal programs.
This is the worst set back for UFOlogy since George Adamski. Or maybe Meier. It's THAT bad.

What I'm seeing here is that they are trying to infuse action movie elements into a UFO-related reality show. I can see the potential for this concept getting a mixed reception, though the general public might dig it. In saying that, I do have two episodes on hand that I will watch ahead of the taping with James Fox. And remember that Fox is a serious guy when it comes to UFOs.
