Wow, I have very mixed emotions here. I think I'm against it but at the same time... Thing is how many scientific breakthroughs have been stopped by politics and greed? Still, here is one reason I'm concerned with it.
I once saw a film about a "scientist" who experimented on a monkey. I think it was back in the sixties or 70's and if somebody knows what I'm talking about I'll appreciate the correction. Anyway, this little monkey (if memory serves) was operated on by this frankenstein. He actually removed parts and in the film you could see the little fella was suffering. I can't remember much about it and I wish I could. I would like to be able to describe to you the indifference this "person" had for the creature under his knives. Anyway, before it died there was one scene that I have never forgotten. The monkey looked at this guy with a look that was part hate and part revulsion and part fear. I would never want any creature on earth to look at me like that. Now, I'm not a PETA type person. I am one of those (to some of you) little misguided folks that believe in a God and a purpose to life. I'm not a bible thumper or any kind of fundi. But, if I had tortured a creature the way that one was tortured, I would actually be worried about meeting my maker. I may be able to find something more concrete about the story I've told. I just know how I felt watching it. I think it may be on youtube somewhere.

I'm not a fan of genetic manipulation. I still remember very clearly the first "Jurassic Park" movie in which the character Ian Malcolm states "your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should." And tyder, I don't remember the name of the film that you are discussing, but I think I've seen the clip. Personally I'm disgusted by the indifference and contempt some scientists have for their animalian "subjects."
And asdfasdfre so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should
