An Open Minded Skeptic
Honestly, I don't care if this gets me thrown off the forum or not.

Chris O'Brien Sucks....LOL!

No, here is the true honesty.

First of all, I didn't have a chance to reply to the thread which said goodbye to Lance. So be it. I had a great deal of respect for a lot of what Lance said, but also felt that sometimes (and I am not a hypocrite here) he could have conveyed his opinion in a more diplomatic manner.

That being said, I too have worked harder on replying with a sense of understanding for the other guy, but sometimes felt as though I was being singled out, and as is almost an instinct within my persona, felt the need to defend myself (sometimes overtly disrespectful to the other person) in kind.

I want to go on the record here and state that Chris O'Brien is one of the best hosts I have heard on a paranormal radio show in a long long time! I don't always agree with his opinions, but let's make something very clear, right here and now....

1. Chris sometimes painstakingly drives the topic of the shows he hosts cleanly on, or back on track.
2. He very rarely allows his personal feelings to dissuade his interest, and always respects and does his very best to keep the guest as comfortable as possible.
3. His demeanor when dealing with every aspect of the show is both honorable and genuinely positive.

But for people to believe that he should have no "opinion" and act as some form of robot, is nonsensical to say the least!

Lance began a lot of his "opinion" about Chris with the critique on he bringing up information that was either one sided, or perhaps not able to be substantiated with the kind of proof Lance would have liked to have heard. Honestly, even though I thought Chris might have embellished a personal interest in a subject matter by which a proponent of the opposite angle could find holes in, that didn't mean that Chris acted like his answer was the ONLY answer and have done with it.

No, as I mentioned here and will defend on this forum or anywhere else I might wind up, Chris ALWAYS showed a fair hat in discussing any topic in which he found himself in, whereby the context was expanded to include "opinions" and not always facts.

What's wrong with that?

So in conclusion, the next time someone on here wants to overtly critique Chris for doing what he believes is right, just take a few minutes out to think about what the show would be like, if someone of a radically opposing position to your own, would take the helm and pan anything or anyone (either totally suppressing or out-rightly ignoring) a topic which might look to diversify his or her, "know it all" consideration. And do this, might I add, without the open ended and fairly excellent manner by which Chris and Gene question respectfully.

I'd hate to see that form of "Camelot" develop! Wouldn't you?

I like Chris as a host too... Altho I like to hear a little "good cop, bad cop" style questioning sometimes. As much as I grew to dislike a certain socialist/marxist/thread nazi host... I did like the way he sometimes "attacked" the guests and called them out on whatever claims they were making.

You see I listen in on the show because I am really interested in the Paranormal. I don't listen in to hear in fighting, or vindictive ranting, or "attacking" of any sort. To me the show rolls very smoothly now because of the way in which Chris and Gene guide it along. On one hand you have Gene sometimes playing the "tough love" role, but normally Chris is looking for better ways to keep the interest flowing smoothly.

Together they work like a team and that's what makes this format one of the best out there today.

in reference to "attacking"... what i meant was I liked the way a previous host would keep the guest on their toes and slightly off balance. It seemed to bring out more information from some guests.

Gene and Chris are indeed a great team.

Well, call me jaded if you like, but if we can't get the guests to submit to a sodium pentothal fueled lie detector session live on air while suspended in a dunking tank, what fun is it anyway? (huffs and puts the blow torch back in the tool shed)

I think Chris is absolutely genuine. To me, he comes off a bit easy on the "woo" in some cases. However, in the Crystal Skulls episode, he was clearly attempting a debunking at the "fake" crystal skull that he found...but the guest just didn't get it. In fact, I think I actually heard Chris's jaw hit the desk when the guest actually waxed poetic about how even "fakes' had a genuine effect on people. <shivers>

I've tried to stay out of the current host/past host conversation, as I think that one cannot really compare/contrast two completely different individuals that approach these subjects with completely divergent mindsets. ( I mean I call myself a skeptic but in no way am I in the same category as some of the self proclaimed "skeptics" that try to tear apart any and all claims and debunk the person rather than the event.)

Anyways, Chris and Gene, keep rocking the mikes.

.

I finally got around to listening to this episode awhile ago. I think the guest was sincere but he was not scientific in any way. It all seemed to be a spiritual trip for him. And I think he very much laid it all out in those terms.
I have to say that when Chris first arrived at the Paracast, I was not sure. The trickster cackling was a bit much. Since then he has toned that down a little and has been a great host. Like Gene, he is always what I would call a gentleman and never is snarky or vicious to the guests. Personally, I appreciate the fact that he understands (or seems to understand) that not everything has a scientific explanation. Or at least no scientific explanation YET.</shivers>
