I've been getting the CoastZone email newsletter, and it is indeed the distillation of banality. At the end of each daily email, they include a "quote of the night" that always cracks me up, and I wanted to share.

"The number one thing that you can do to help yourself see nature spirits...is if you don't have them already, is get yourself some strings of miniature Christmas lights and place in your bushes if you like to see Gnomes and Elves, and in the trees if you'd like to see fairies. And the reason for this is the Nature People all resonate to different color frequencies. For example, Gnomes resonate to the colors green and red. And what they'll do is use the energy from those lights as well as the background twigs and leaves to help them come in more clearly for you to see them." --Christopher Valentine

Isn't that just the very summit of airy-fairy? Or should I say fey?

Nature People? If you'd like to see fairies? Resonate to different color frequencies?

What a bunch of pseudoscientific bullshit. It gives pseudoscience a bad name.

I decided to start a new thread for these, because every day, there's a little polished turd in my mailbox that makes me cackle with glee thinking about the glassy-eyed, drooling, average Coast listener that laps up this drivel, and can't wait to hear the next crystal-selling, psychic dog medium or channeler bringing the word from beyond the grave.

So, even on your worst day, hopefully, you'll be able to get a kick out of this, that will lift your spirits, or at least allow you to get in touch with them. If your guardian angel will allow it.

Sigh! It's a shame the level the show has fallen to. I acually like Ian but I haven't listened to this one. I am a streamlink member but it's more for the guest such as Dean Koontz and Jeffery Long. Then this kind of drivel comes up and I seriously wonder why I even try. Anyway, Binnal and the Paracast and even Erie Radio are the top discussion sites out there as far as I'm concerned. I'll listen to the Please tell me Ian redeemed himself on this show. I just can't bring myself to listen.

Okay, here's the latest round of bullshit from the CoastZone email newsletter. Seven, count 'em, SEVEN psychics weigh in on 2009 (although one apparently didn't get the memo and went as far as 2013) ...This is just precious. I can't believe anybody can see this shit on Coast and keep coming back!

Predictions Special: 2009

Our special New Year's Day show hosted by Ian Punnett featured seven guests prognosticating about 2009. In order of the guests' appearances, here are some of the highlights:

Psychic Jeffrey Wands: There'll be a breakthrough in AIDS treatment, with possibly a vaccine. A possible fire at the Sears Tower will raise safety issues about large buildings. Several music entertainers will die together in a plane crash.

</td> <td width="560"> Psychic medium Tana Hoy: Kidnappings will be on the rise in border states like California, Texas, and Arizona. Real estate prices will begin to rebound this year. HIV research will have a breakthrough in 2009.

Trends analyst Gerald Celente: The Collapse of '09-- markets & businesses fail. Unemployment will reach over 20%. We'll see The Greatest Depression-- worse than the 1930's depression. A return to Yankee frugality. "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, do without."

Psychic Anthony Carr: Money will be replaced by a barter system. Around 2013, civilization as we know it will come to a close. The "star travelers" will return and bring about world peace.

Consultant George Ure: Hyper inflation will occur after February. In March, a NASA whistleblower will reveal secrets. In mid-May, a civil war or "soft revolution" will take place in some parts of the United States, related to high unemployment.

Astrologer Mark Lerner: The period of March 6–April 17th will be a difficult or turbulent time for America concerning money issues. After this time, it's better to sign contracts or make decisions related to money.

Spiritual psychic Angela Moore: Major seismic and/or volcanic activity will take place in America, possibly at Yellowstone. Paranormal activity is on the rise, and parents of little kids will be blown away by their abilities.

What a LOAD! Boy, if we could only get this group together on the show and have them stand up in a line, we could have Gene and David run by real fast with a razor blade about neck-high and catch 'em all in one shot.

This week on The Paracast! Psychics who didn't see it coming! Turn up your radios and you'll be able to hear the sound of gurgling blood as our panel of supercilious psychics hits the deck! Coming up... on The Paracast!

This one is my favorite:
In March, a NASA whistleblower will reveal secrets. I just picked up Richard Hoagland and Mike Bara's Dark Mission, it spent some time on the New York Times bestseller list. (I've been wanting to get a copy since it came out, I just didn' have the money--or the gift card.) He's been a NASA whistleblowers for YEARS! That "psychic" could easily have just asked producer Tom "When's the next time you have Richard C. scheduled for the show?" casually (that's what's called 'warm reading'), and gotten, "Sometime in March" for an answer.

Psychic, my left foot. And by left foot, I mean, my ass.

Day yum! And when a Southerner uses a phony exagerated accent you know we are susprised. Why the venom? It's just an evenings entertaiment on the ole radio. Or to quote a current movie. "Why so Serious?" ;)

Hey, they get to throw it out there, we get to make fun of it.

It's a little thing called The First Amendment. Enjoy it.

Yeah. I agree but I don't think I was questioning anybodys free speech. Just wondering at the venom. OH well, I guess it's a holdover from being in a couple of paranormal groups on myspace. They went belly up but before they did I noticed there was an awful lot of anger whenever the paranormal was discussed. Just never understood it. But then again I don't get my faith or beliefs from steven greer or jerry falwell. I think for myself. However, I have often wondered about fundies be they atheist or religous. Why would a dyed in the wool athiest care since all the fairy tale folks will dye off in the next glorious leap of evolution? Why do the religous care since when the wicked die they will get theirs? Oh well, questions for another thread and I don't want to hijack this one. Just thought it was a "little" to intense. But again that is free speech and yep I am all for it. :)

Well, here's the thing...

Some of us are not happy with the state of overall intelligence of the masses. We're concerned at just how ignorant the majority of people on this planet seem to be, and we're worried that these folks will find themselves with money, power, weapons and resources. We're terrified that fundamentalist morons have access to nuclear weapons. We're frustrated that dumb people with mainstream media programs have an unhealthy influence on the masses.

I honestly understand. I guess I'm just more holistic than I was at one time. I honestly think there is more to life than religion or scientism can every understand or accept. Also, although I agree with you (and enjoy your input on the show.) I am not comfortable with anyone not even the intelligent few here on the forum making the decision for me as to who is rational and who isn't. When it comes to intuitives and "knowing" I have had some experiences in my life where I knew or even dreamed something. But, I never could call it up on demand. Still can't and when I have tried I end up way off base. Still, there are moments.

I think it's fine for people to be sensitive, or psychic--but to make such claims as the ones that did which I posted, is just out there.

I've had plenty of psychic experiences in my life, and I think most people are, and do--but the ones that they normally have on Coast make money in the most unsavory ways--by claiming that they have extraordinary powers that they don't and by claiming to be something that they aren't.

When somebody predicts a specific, remarkable event, I'll be the first person to give them kudos.

But the general kind of shit they're spouting--as well as the ultra-specific nonsense about the space brothers coming down to rescue us in 2013--is just too much. Somebody needs to call them on it, and in the meantime--we're gonna make fun of it! Because it's funny! :D

Can't argue with that. I enjoy some of Coast but I do admit it has gotten worse since Noory has taken over. I enjoy Ian and Knapp but I didn't even bother to listen to Ian the other night when he had something about fairies on. Anyway, I do enjoy the boards and the paracast. I will still listen to Coast also but you are right about folks like Dames and Greer and Brown. Still I am very interested (especially as I cross the big 5-0) in life after death research and conscieness studies. I would love to see and hear David take on the "great" randi. 8)
