I just heard about this.. I couldn't find a thread for it, so I figured I'd start one.

Has anyone seen this footage? I think it's pretty amazing. This thing shines a light illuminating the tops of threes, and then sends down a thin beam of light!

It's also over at EarthFiles

Earthfiles.com Environment | Mysterious Aerial Lights and Beams in Pennsylvania Woods

dB, have you seen this? Thoughts? If it looks legit, get the shooter on the show!

Yeah I think youre right Schuyler.

I ADMIT that I only watched the "most shocking" part and didnt wait for the rest to load, but if thats the best part then I dont see any point watching the rest.

Makes me angry that Linda Howe is blowing her load (again) over something so inconclusive. She is pretty much useless these days. Some of her witness interviews are ok but she is as bad as Strieber as far as what she finds interesting.

Watch at 8:01. The beam appear in front of the tree. Looks like an optical aberration or composite. Notice how the laser dims along with the brightness of the main light. The angle of the beam also does not appear to change. Unusual if you were looking for something with a search light. This would be an easy trick to do in After Effects.

There are a few interesting things though... I don't hear a helicopter. They are quite loud. You can hear them from quite a distance. She said it was totally silent.

When the tops of the trees are being illuminated, you don't see a light on the bottom of the object. That's a very bright light, and you would think it would be visible. You should see a wide beam coming from the object. And what's that small flashing light near he ground?

I've seen a lot of police helicopters around here with the search lights and all, and they don't shine a tight beam of light like that. It's a big bright searchlight that you can see on the bottom of the chopper. Plus all that was being filmed with a night vision scope. So you should see the light on the bottom of the object, but you don't.

The beam of light is very thin, not at all what helicopters use, and it's pulsing with the pulse on the object. I've seen the pulsing light on the front of helicopters, but why would the beam be pulsing with the strobe? What use would that be? And how do you make a tight beam like that with an incandescent lamp? It looks like it's shining between two trees, so its behind one and in front of the other.

Lastly, there is that weird shape changing thing going on.

Before it can be conclusively ruled out as a chopper, we would need to see one in the same location, etc. There are aspects that remind me of a helicopter, but a lot that don't match.

The last interesting thing, to me anyway, is that there is a mine below where the object is that is a radon deposit. The encounter I had many years ago with a disk and creatures was also where there was radium ore buried, which was later removed as part of the Super Fund project because of radon gas issues.

I'm not really seeing the helicopter, either. That doesn't look like any searchlight I've ever seen. If it's not a CG hoax, I believe it is something other than a chopper. I wonder if the beam was visible to the naked eye, and if so what color it was. I have been zapped directly in the eyes by an extremely intense magenta colored beam from a UFO. Curiously, there was no after-image even though it was very dark.
Here's more footage from the same person. If that's a helicopter I'm the emperor of Rome.

In the interview she said she was so concerned with getting it on film (tape?), that she didn't lift her head to see the color of the beam. I think she said the object was an amber color.

She said she bought the camera and night vision scope because she and her kids kept seeing odd things in the sky. She has some other videos not taken though the scope that look interesting.

This was all done in HD. It would cool if David could get access to the raw files to check them out.

She used a Sony HDR-VR500 HD digital camcorder attached to an ATN NVM14-3A Generation 3 Nightvision scope.

We keep waiting for someone to film some UFOs in HD, so lets not knock it until it's looked at by an expert. I think it's interesting enough for further study.

Speaking of beams... I have a friend I've known since high school who said her husband told her a story when he was a teenager of being on a golf course in West Orange NJ at night with some friends and silent lights came over head and shined a very intense beam of light on them, and chased them around the field! They freaked out and ran home!

I agree that it does not look like a normal search beam shot from a helicopter. But...the movement of the object does seem to be from a "known" type of craft. A single strobe, and with the "green and white" lighting, we have no idea whether the strobe is red, green, white, amber or infrared. We also have no idea how wide the original beam is, since we don't know distance from the object.

I would like to know how the optics of the particular set up alter the image of the beam as well. Something just doesn't seem right about it.

I would say that this is interesting footage, to be sure, but not compelling.

I was listening to one of the paracast episodes today and someone mentioned that light trails can happen using the night vision setting of certain cameras. I think a true search light wouldn't have been blinking on and off. Car engines do mask sound. Since she didn't turn off her car she can't really say there was no noise. And then there is her assertion that it was displaying fake plane flashing red and white lights (WTF!!!). It moves like an airplane and it doesn't make any moves that would make you think it wasn't a plane.

Did you watch the vid, about 3 posts up, from the same person? It's either CG, or it's a "real" UFO. That ain't no plane or chopper. Period.

Still ain't convinced. In the second video, the first aircraft shown is obviously an airplane. There also appears to be A LOT of ambient light coming from behind the trees around the ridgeline where she saw the orb. There could be an highway or road up there and some of the light she catching is from vehicles or streetlamps. Zoom lenses can do funny things with light at night.

There are a number of interesting phenomenon happening there by the sounds of it... if it IS legit. The stuff near the end seems the most peculiar to me.

OMG, I can't believe she said "It looks like a flying peni$". Landfill and golf course was a huge tip, so I checked google maps with the satellite view and she is about 10 mile give or take from a major airport (which would have been off to her left in the last video) and near a couple of major roads. Besides, if you listen to her running commentary on the last video link, she sounds fucking nuts. :D Also, do a google for murrysville, pa and ufo's and her name is the only one that comes up. Not what I would expect if there a were a major UFO flap happening in her vicinity.

Ha ha ha! You caught that too eh? I am undecided if that is "nuts" or completely in awe, albeit a weirded out awe at what she is witnessing. She also discusses the airport (or maybe that was the text laid across the video.) Either way, I am undecided on the whole thing but it's some pretty interesting footage if legit.

How could you NOT miss that! I would love to see some great proof but I am inclined to believe this ain't it. I would like to reiterate that that I have lived near airports a good chunk of my life and it looks like she is mostly catching airport traffic. I am not so close anymore, but I am still close enough to hear the airplane engines start up in the morning (once the city is up and going you can't hear them anymore) and I don't know enough about the area that she is filming to know if there aren't a couple of roads along those ridgelines or not. The fact that she does not hear some of them I don't think means anything. If she has a couple of major highways near by the road noise alone is going to a have a white noise effect that will mask the fainter aircraft sounds. Also, I don't know what kind of effect all those trees and the lay of the land are going to have on the acoustics. She may be legit, but there are no maps, there has not been any scientific analysis done yet, and I just don't think her footage is that compelling.
I would like to believe, but they keep showing me footage of aircraft.

Well it moves like a helicopter, not a plane. Planes don't hover or move that slowly.

I was sitting in my running car early this morning just as the sun was rising. It was cold here, about 30°F, so obviously I had the windows up and the heater running full blast.

As I was sitting there I could hear a helicopter coming, even though I couldn't see it. As it flew over head I could see that the strobes on the tale section reflect on the main rotor. So that should be another thing visible in the videos. So car engines don't mast out the sound of a helicopter, even when you are in the car, with the windows closed, and the heater on. I could hear it long before I saw it off in the distance.

If you do some research into UFO cases, at least one was seen once with wings, so it sort of resembled a plane, and another had big letters on the side that said "UFO"! Seriously. So it's not unprecedented that one would mimic a plane. You have to stop thinking nuts-and-bolts space craft for a minute. That's not what's going on here. They often seem to like to play tricks on people. This woman has another video where she claims that after a while another UFO changed shape and fake wings came out.

Anyway, I still think this is an interesting video and needs further studying. Helicopters do have a pulsating light on the front, at least the traffic 'copters do. I see them every day.

But as I said, I think other things don't add up. The broad searchlight lighting up the trees at the beginning doesn't seem to have a source, and then there is the laser like beam, that pulsates with the large light. If the laser type light left a beam, since it seems misty, where's the beam from the big search light? You only see the tree tops lighting up. Plus if a helicopter was hovering over the trees like that, the wind from the rotor would be blowing them around. You don't see that happening.

Before we can explain it away as conventional aircraft, we have to explain the odd search lights, etc. Also, it would be easy enough to find out if the police or military had a helicopter in the area that night. She tells the date and time.

Then it never looks like a helicopter when she zooms in, albeit it's out of focus. And it seem to be changing shape. That's not unheard of in UFO reports either. Still seems odd to me.

I think we are going to have to agree to disagree. :) Smaller airplanes tend to look like they are moving along a lot more leisurely compared with their larger commercial transport brethren.
There is a small to mid-size airport less than 10 miles away from where I live. I see everything from large commercial aircraft, small airplanes and helicopters. I even get to see (and hear) the fighter jets that tear out of our area on a regular basis. Her footage may be legit, but until I see some kind of analysis done on it, I am going to have to say the objects in the air look like conventional aircraft to me.

I've seen one, with two other witnesses, that for a few seconds morphed into what appeared to be a small airplane covered with Christmas lights that were "Mexicany" colored. We call it the "Fiesta Plane" when we talk about it. No shit.

I also live near several airports, from Newark Liberty International, to smaller ones like Essex County Airport, where JFK Jr started his last flight. So I'm used to seeing planes of all kinds, and have since I was a kid.

So yes, at the right angle even a large airliner looks slow. But look at the video. How wide are those trees? Now you can figure how slow the object is moving. Also in the segment in the beginning where it is lighting up the tops of the trees, it's clearly hovering. If it wasn't, the light on the trees would be moving laterally, but it isn't. You see the light sweep back and forth across the tops of the trees, and then the object starts moving to the right. It does this more than once. I think the tree lighting thing would be tough to do with CGI. And it if were a plane, it would have to have been constantly facing towards the camera, since we never see a tail section with lights, and the pulsing strobe is facing the camera. Same holds true for a chopper, but at least they cam fly that way.

It also did not have the usual lights that planes have, even small planes, such as the white strobe on the bottom. Planes don't have a large pulsing light like that, but some helicopters do.

You have to explain those before we can say it's a plane.

As I said earlier, the only way to tell is to go to the same area and film helicopter or plane on the same path, and then compare the two.

And it still doesn't explain some of the odd things, like the tree tops not blowing from a rotor, or the thin beam of light that's pulsating with the large light. Do you know of any planes or helicopters with such lights?
