Computer Help Needed!

I am running Windows Vista 64. I have finally broken down and ordered a USB hub to attach to my notebook. Finally, I can attach all my external drives at once! Now, I need two things. First off, a freeware that will override the inexplicable "unable to remove device as it is in use", even though it isn't. I know there are several out there, but hopefully I can get some advice on the best. Preferably, one that needs no installation. When your USB drive was used an hour ago, and is still spinning, about all you can do is unplug it from your computer, because the computer will never admit it is not in use. Second... I need a way to permanently attach drive letters to a particular drive. I know they have serial numbers, and I have seen software for earlier Windows edition that does this. I want to be able to call a drive "J", for example, and know each time I plug it in, it will be called that. TIA for any help or advice you can give.

Hiya Pygar. When your drive is plugged in, you should be able to right click on it and rename. Call it anything you like and whatever PC/laptop it gets plugged into will have the same number or name. I've done it with USB andexternal hard drives. Someone else will help with the other issue. If there's no data transfer, I pull them out anyway and haven't had a problem. This applies to my phone, mp3 player also.

I hate Vista. It runs on my laptop and work laptop, but I keep my PC on XP cos I'm a Luddite :D
