Cowboys & Aliens

Free episodes:

Hmm, Harrison Ford and the director of Iron Man (Don't usually like superhero movies but that one was pretty good.)? Might actually be decent. :)

This will no doubt spur a series of "period piece" alien movies. Look forward to Victorian England and Aliens, Pilgrims and Aliens, Robert E. Lee and Aliens, and Cavemen and Aliens coming to a theater near you.

Well, we already have Victorian England and Aliens -- "War of the Worlds".

IIRC, Time Tunnel (1967?) did an episode where a couple of aliens land near a town in the Old West. Their planet's running out of resources or something and they're looking for stuff to steal. Guns won't hurt them and they have mind control. But it's all technology, and when somebody smashes their device they leave.

or you could go all out and really mix up the genres.... "Ronin Alien" dir. A. Kurosawa (okay so he's dead but it would have been a cool film)... or "The Cook, The Thief His Wife and Her Alien" dir. Peter Greenaway..... "Brideshead Alien - A Merchant Ivory Production".... - have Igone too far with that last one?

ps - doesnt Speilberg/ JJ Abrams have one out next summer called Super 8 about aliens?

"The Cook, The Thief His Wife and Her Alien" dir. Peter Greenaway.....

Really? You actually made reference to that movie? I had no idea anyone else even knew that horrible thing existed.

If we're going down this road, might as well get silly;
"Gilligans Alien Island"
"Leave it to Alien"
"The Alien Bunch"
"CSI Antares"
"The Pleidians of Hazzard"
"Jersey Shore"...oh, wait...

I quite like Peter Greenaway - have you seen Belly Of An Architect? Worth watching.... I watched the cook the thief etc etc because a girl I was dating was an art student and I thought it would impress her. The film was good, I enjoyed it, but she started talking on and on about the symbolism, use of colour etc etc, and took the fun out of it. (It was only a film you know)...

So it's an arthouse sort of thing? I like some of those, some I don't. I'm able to watch a lot of stuff that my friends think is as boring as death. Something I saw not long ago that I really, really liked was Let The Right One In. Not surprisingly the few friends I recommended it to hated it. Too slow for them. But one I just couldn't tolerate was Synecdoche, New York. That is one of the most pretentious, full-on-itself pieces of shit I've ever had the misfortune of seeing.

I suppose it was art house... but movies are an art, and like any art, it's a personal thing. I prefer moving pictures to stills - have you seen Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait - even if you hate football its still a great film/ piece of art. But back to Cowboys & Aliens, it looks like a good way to spend a couple of hours on a sunday when you have a bit of a hangover. Synecdoche, New York... missed that one but it did have the look of a film that was a bit too clever for its own good. Trying to recall the last really good film I watched....

No, never even heard of it until now.

I do that with Asian movies. Something about good Asian cinema when the camera angle, the scenery, the symbolism and the colors tell more of the story in an almost subtle but detailed way.
