Crank Call Makes Fool of Coast to Coast

Free episodes:

Astroboy

Illegitimate Clone
Check this you tube video out. A caller claims a paranormal story which Coast to Coast host buys utterly. Except the story is straight out of the video game Half Life.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=liKV4Ij8LtU

The caller keeps a straight face but it's hysterical to listen to cause the host is clueless that he's been fooled.

Ha! Good catch Astroboy! sNoory is such a moron. How this slack-jawed troglidyte is still hosting is beyond me.

Yup, Noory bought the whole kitten-kaboodle, the whole enchilada, the whole nine yards…

Yeah! Hahahah!
That idiot Noory doesn't even recognize the plot of Half-Life!
I bet that noob doesn't even play video games!
What a fool! Hahahahah!

No . .. wait . . . ya'll are the ones being silly, not Noory.

There's no reason to expect a man with a career and a social life to be familiar with a game a bunch of geeks play instead of having girlfriends. Plus . . . we all know that the format of C2C is to allow their callers to say any retarded thing they want without question. We're you guys really expecting him to say "Wait a minute, I played that video game"???

People still believe in this tired stereotype? Videogaming is THE premier entertainment industry, making more money annually than movies and music combined. The average videogame player is in their mid-twenties to late thirties. This notion of "geeks in the basement" being the only ones playing videogames in this day and age is insane.

Not necessarily although it is kind of surprising. Half Life was the best selling video game of it's time, it won countless awards and essentially re-invented the FPS genre which had been nothing but DOOM clones up til that point. Plus that was seven years ago and there have been 3 sequels and one spin off. It's hardly obscure.

Who believes a caller with no questioning what-so-ever and then elaborates on the caller's comments?...George, I am a theoretical gynecologist, any elaborations!

I have to agree with DBTrek here, though I often find George Noory down right silly. There's no reason to think (S)Noory would or should know the plot of any particular video game out there. I have never heard of this game myself. The only game I know is the one that I play and that's Civilization. I don't even have a clue what Halo 3 is about.

I guess where I don't agree with DBTrek is with the comments about careers and social life in relation to game geeks :P
I work with some married doctors that play World of Warcraft!

I'm with Trek here. This caller does not make Noory look any more foolish than usual. I'm 25, play many video games, and I wouldn't have caught this joke if it had heard it live on C2C.

First person shooters don't entertain me. God of War 2, now that's a game.

Yes, Noory has a social life unlike those geeky gamers. Because as we all know people highly invested in paranormal topics can claim right to living a "normal" life in a way that the common nerd cannot.

I live in Seattle. I've tested video games for Microsoft. It's not a stereotype in this area, it's a reality.

I did online beta testing for Sony and their development affiliates. It was a lot of work, and all I got for my trouble was discount vouchers and free software that I never would have purchased anyway.
You'd be surprised how much truly wretched crap never sees the light of day. When you factor in all the money that must have been wasted on those projects, it's clear to see why software is so expensive.

I do pre-production work from home with clients like EA, Midway, Id, Activision, etc. Worked on one very well known sci-fi film, but found the experience dissapointing and went back to games.

I think expecting any typical adult to know the plot and character details of a computer game, especially a 50 year old radio guy is silly. We aren't talking Leo Laporte here - Noory is just not entrenched in the whole tech-heavy world that a lot of us are in.

I'm guessing the most you could expect is for the average man on the street to know that Madden is football game, and that "Doom sounds like one of those game where people go around shooting each other. Say, didn't those kids at Columbine play that game?"

And let's be honest, the typical person who goes on Coast to Coast tells a story that COULD be right out of a video game anyway. It's not like the prankster's tale was off base from everything else on that show. Underground bases in Dulce run by Greys, cities on the moon, multiple alien races visting Earth to create human hybrids.. yea, I think I played that game once or twice a few years back ;)

It's not like he's doing the show solo, though. Unless his entire staff is made up of luddites in their 50s I find it remarkable nobody else picked up on it.

Anyone else here work in the video game industry?

I'm actually currently designing a video game with a small team of people. It's in the "myst" genre of games... ie, very surreal and atmospheric with an overarching mystery and puzzles to solve. We've just finished a short demo, if anyone here likes this genre of game and would like to be a tester, please send me a message and I can send you our non-disclosure agreement.
