Just a note that Cyberstation is unavailable and either are the DMR archives. I am not sure but maybe they got hit by a virus or cyber attack.

I am sure it will be back but for the meantime we have to live without DMR access.

I had also noticed that they were off-line yesterday when I was hungry for some DMR and it was not to be found on-line. I do keep a few unread MP3s in the backpocket, so the situation was not "Terminal". I am not sure that I can share your optimism about the vigor of Cyberstation. It seemed they kept DMR in hibernation for an awfully long time the last time around. Just Saying:(

I feel bad for Don. It's clear to me that the Cyberstation people haven't a clue how to run a network properly. Yes, outages occur, but it seems they are frequent and long over there. I'd like to speak to their people and see if I can offer some hopeful suggestions.

Again that happening last year i think as well. A cyber attack brought down the station, if i remember correctly. Why would anyone go to this much trouble if their doing this?

This is a common cyberattack: Denial-of-service attack - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Our host had a number of these earlier this year. But installing more powerful routers and other equipment will mitigate the problems; the situation has been much better in the past month for us. A good admin team can also harden the servers to reduce the impact as well. If it happens too often -- and nothing can prevent such things entirely -- then someone in the management Cyberstation ought to be looking more into solutions to the problem. Frequent outages mean lost audiences, and perhaps reduced ad income for sites dependent on that for revenue.

I see, for example, that the main Cyberstation site is hosted by GoDaddy (not a good decision based on my experience -- and I live 10 minutes from their main headquarters). They probably should be contacting GD's tech people for assistance, and if they don't get the service they want, take their business elsewhere.

I think it was a malware attack that hit Cyberstation last year and i think it originated from outside the United States. I could be wrong on that, but i vaguely remember now Don talking about it.

Actually it was 2010 handy having archives to look back on.

I just got off the phone with Senior Ex. VP Jeremy Lacey from CyberstationUSA and he asked me to relay this information to all you here at the Paracast.

CyberstationUSA servers were hit with a cyber-attack that, at this point, has been tracked back to Tehran, Iran and totally compromised the CyberstationUSA servers. If you go to the site at this time there is a danger of picking up a virus. They are in the process of currently going to new servers and he will let me know when the site is back up and running. He told me it should be in a few hours as I write this. (Currently .l.. it is 1:20 PM Pacific Time - my time) So, now you know. Any questions and I will send forward then get back

From Jeremy Lacey, CyberstationUSA this morning on Facebook;

"
To all,

Following some unscheduled routine maintenance by our third party server hosting partners, I am proud to announce that CyberStationUSA is back up and running at full capacity. This includes our Archives, Programs, and Listen-Live pages. Additionally, Spotlite is also fully operational again.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you over this Memorial Day weekend. If you experience any problems viewing the above pages, simply clear your Cookies on your Browser and reload the page(s).

We thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to continuing to provide you with the highest quality radio and online integrated media content that you have faithfully come to enjoy.

Best regards,

If this is happening so often, Don, maybe they should be looking at a different hosting partner. As I said, I'm no fan of GoDaddy, which is listed as the host of their domain.

Yeah Gene, perhaps. However I got enough on my plate that I leave that other stuff to the good people at CyberstationUSA. Like I said ... got enough on my plate ...

I think they are on a shoe string budget like pennies in a jar type budget.

The website is not the greatest designed! but I like the variety of shows they have most of them different subjects. Although they recently added Ripleys Believe It Or Not which is cool.

I realize this isn't anything you can deal with. But I'd be happy to give them suggestions if they would be interested.

Here is the radio I am using to listen! Any tech tips you can suggest to figure out how to listen to your show and DMR. What OS does this baby use because I think it needs an upgrade.

Thanks.
