David: Q about the Phoenix lights

Free episodes:

Nothin' to see here
David, Ive always been curious why it is you say that the lights seen in the night time in the Phoenix lights episode were flares? I dont think Ive ever heard you say why you think that.

To me they seem to be too consistent and perfectly spaced to be flares on humans.... plus they seem to move in parallel.

Would love to hear what your take is.

I was there. I lived just a few miles from Sky Harbor airport at the time. When I saw them I thought it was weird because airplanes don't go into holding patterns in that area. They were just sitting there not moving. At the time I didn't think anything about it , but I can say they were not flares. Was it a UFO? I don't know. I wasn't lucky enough to be underneath them, but I was looking at them kind of head on. These were bright static objects in the sky.

People can call them flares, people skydiving with lanterns or whatever. It doesn't matter. I was there, they took up a tremendous amount or the sky the way they were spread apart. I did not see them blink out though. I only watched them for a minute or two. and as far as I could yell, they never moved.

I live about a 30-minute drive from the Sky Harbor airport. No, I didn't see the Phoenix Lights. I was staying indoors writing tech books in those days. :D

I never bought the flare theory either...

When I hear James Fox saying they were flares,I sort of get the sense that he's taking the "safe route",in order to bypass criticisism from the likes of McGaha(haha...),and focus the attention on the more spectacular 8.15 incident...

Speaking of such.... can anyone point me to good photos of the sky being blotted out by the huge triangular shaped object?

I heard there were some photos around.

No photos of the 8.15 craft have been published yet,as far as I know...

But I have heard a rumor that James Fox have uncovered some previously unknown film footage, which will probably be in his new movie "Beyond the Blue".

A few questions guys 1 ....how long does it take to get dark from the time 8.15 to ten in that part of the country when this so called incident happened...... 2 how for from the city is the militay base ......3 is there any known civilian airport close by....... 4where all the lights reported considered to be white in origin.5...how long was the 8.15 craft reported to be seen in the area6...is that area completely desert or is there lakes or rivers within a five miles radius.7.... was there any static or charge given off by this event that hindered peoples radios or tv sets or any other electronic devices.... i may have other questions just looking for some insight into this event thanks:)

I was outside because a police helicopter was hovering around the group of houses I lived in with a huge spotlight looking for someone they were chasing. I was making sure some crackhead wasn't hiding in my yard.

I remember one day I got up around 5:00am and went outside to let my dogs out. You could just see the outline of the sunrise on the horizon. I looked up and in the air was a large translucent cylindrical object that was lit from the inside just sitting there. The freakin air flew out of my lungs, it was a very cool shock and something I'll never forget. It was a blimp :frown:

Also one sunrise, the same situation but in Philly on a train platform in Bristol I looked up and saw a booster rocket enter the atmosphere and go right across the sky. The trail of smoke was something out of the movie Armageddon. There were probably 10 people on that platform and not one other person saw it. I remember thinking you all just missed probably the coolest thing you'll ever see in your life.

They're flares because they drop at a steady rate (if you have a complete video of the footage, played at 2X) and disappear as they fall beyond the mountain range in the background. Yes, they were beyond the mountain range, not over the city. Past that mountain approx. 70 miles, is Goldwater range, where the flares were dropped.

At that distance, no smoke from said flares would be seen. They attained a strange luminosity due to scintillation effect, I would say progressively as they neared the ground.

If youre lucky enough to hit the NG special about this, they show the overlaid footage with daylight footage shot at the same place. It's VERY evident these lights were MUCH farther away then claimed by many. Certainly behind the mountain range, as this vividly shows the lights "winking out" as they dropped behind the mountain.

Now the earlier sighting? Thats a different story.

Glad you took the time to post some of the reasons. I got burned out on trying to explain it some time ago.

Bruce Maccabee goes into details at his site about the flares as well. For those wanting more info.

Jeff, do you know where one can view the initial video of the craft? The vid taken by the volunteer fireman. Or was it fire chief? Or both? There were two people involved iirc. It's been awhile since I seen the vid, and it appears most people don't even know what the hell I'm talking about when I mention it. I'd love to be able to show them.

Thanks for that. FINALLY I get it. Ive never heard about the fact that the video was played at a constant fast forward and the lights slowly descended. That pretty much says it all.

I thought all this time that they hovered in the same position in the sky then blinked out.

Tks for the heads up Jeff.

Theres an initial video of the earlier triangular 1 mile thing? That would be amazing.

Is this the video with the five blurry lights flying in formation?

The five blurry lights(the one in the OP) is the classic "Phoenix Lights" that everyone refers to. Earlier that evening there was an apparent 1mile wide triangular craft over the city that gets less reporting on for some reason.

Static/snowy night time vid, stealth looking craft, white lights. Hint of an aviation light. Most people haven't seen it. For some reason. Mufon had vid of it. I saw it back when I was with them. For some reason the media wants to show people the flares. Pity that. It worked though. Nice decoy. Pity so many fell for it.

I should add, the vid I speak of has been on tv before. In the late 90s. However, all the attention goes to the flares. Also, when I say it looks like a stealth craft, I mean, something like I imagine the Aurora might look like.

I haven't talked with Bruce M. in awhile, but I might try and see if he has the vid. He's aware of it if I remember correctly.

Or crap, I got the MUFON journal somewhere with a still. But it's in a HUGE stack.

I think I've seen the video you're talking about - It shows five white lights flying in a V-formation - apparently attached too the same object.

It's impossible to estimate the distance or size of the "craft"...

Has anyone heard anything more about the rumor that James Fox has aquired some new footage from that night?
He mentioned it on one of the latest Larry King programs...

From what I understand,it's gonna' go into his next movie,"Beyond the Blue"....
