So the "Ordinance 300" or "Initiative 300" ballot measure instigated by controversial UFO enthusiast Jeff Peckman, to establish an ET agency in Denver, appears to have gone down in flames.

Here's the actual measure:

Shall the voters for the City and County of Denver adopt an Initiated Ordinance to require the creation of an extraterrestrial affairs commission to help ensure the health, safety, and cultural awareness of Denver residents and visitors in relation to potential encounters or interactions with extraterrestrial intelligent beings or their vehicles, and fund such commission from grants, gifts and donations?

And, as I write this, here are the tallies:

DENVER INITIATED ORDINANCE 300

No 84.1% (106,776)

Yes 15.8% (20,162)

So will ET ask for a recount? Inquiring minds want to know.

Good. People were smart enough to understand it was a moronic idea.

So it looks like the next two years will be quite tumultuous in American politics.

Wow, almost 16%! That's way more people than I thought would actually vote for such a loonie, ill-conceived idea. The only aliens they should be thinking about are the ones boiling over our southern borders like army-ants wearing sombreros.

Facing foreclosure and unemployment... an extraterrestrial affairs commision is surely the most important thing in your life

Jeez. We had a chance to be the first to welcome our insectoid overlords, and we could only manage 15%. I'm embarrassed. Even that certified nutjob running for governor got something like 11%.
