This is an illustration from a book "Ume No Chiri (Dust of Apricot)" published in 1803. A foreign ship and crew witnessed at Haratonohama (Haratono Seashore) in Hitachi no Kuni (Ibaragi Prefecture), Japan this strange object. According to the explanation in the drawing, the outershell was made of iron and glass, and strange letters shown in this drawing were seen inside the ship.

Similar triangular glyph.... similar craft 180 years later. Craft skin smooth like black glass as per Penniston

Time travelers or cyclical probes ? I'd go with probes... the same probes we'll send to Gliese 581c when the time comes ;)

I've seen this image on a lot of UFO websites that support the 'ancient aliens' viewpoint. If someone who had no idea of flying saucers and suchlike saw it...what would they see?

They might see an early chiminea, oven or stove. The thing isn't flying, it has an opening at the top and looks pretty much like the Indian clay oven for making chapattis.

Google "Ume No Chiri (Dust of Apricot)" or the quote in your OP and you'll notice they all link to UFO and paranormal sites. Google Ume No Chiri and you get the same result.

Thing that catches my attention is the triangular glyph (with 2 small circles). Finding them on both craft is eerie (halloween anyone ;))

I'd love to hear the guys from Rendelshem on the Paracast. Wasn't there supposed to be some kind of reunion event happening this month ?

Larry Warren and James Penniston would be fantastic guests. The whole event is just mindblowing, and the fact that Penniston was able to walk around and touch that craft just gives me chills...I mean what/who the hell was inside it...?
