Apparently, Colin Andrews, a top cerealogist (? sp.?) is in a dust up with the UK government, and Nick Pope about crop circles. Andrews shows proof that British Royals, MoD, and local authorities have taken more of an interest than they are willing to admit. Interesting, with some UFO implications.

I don't know of his leaving and returning but it's possible. A friend of mine is a friend of his and I'll ask her in a week or so when I see her.
