EMF and hallucinations debunked....I think

I did a little experiment today sitting right next to a 15kv transformer. The humming in the video is not bad audio quality it's the humming of that 15kv. 15KV Video

I sat there right next to the transformer and had myself some coffee and a cinnamon bun. I looked all around the room and not once did I see anything unusual or out of place. There was enough voltage in that room to EMF me for life and probably erased my credit card strips .

Just to give you some idea ,we only typically use 110/220 volts here in the US houshold and 60hz or 50hz in the UK. I was sitting next to 15,000 volts. I am around this kind of thing on a fairly regular basis. I peed on an electric cattle fence once and it lit me up in a very sensitive area, still I seen no unusual things even then.....so I remain a very staunch skeptic concerning EMF and its effects on our perceptions.

The fact that a plumber from a well known paranormal show seems convinced isn't much of a pull for me.

I found this about EMF exposures.......

The effects of exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (EMF), specifically related to the use of mobile telephones, on the nervous system in humans have been the subject of a large number of experimental studies in recent years. There is some evidence of an effect of exposure to a Global System for Mobile Telecommunication (GSM)-type signal on the spontaneous electroencephalogram (EEG). This is not corroborated, however, by the results from studies on evoked potentials. Although there is some evidence emerging that there may be an effect of exposure to a GSM-type signal on sleep EEG, results are still variable. In summary, exposure to a GSM-type signal may result in minor effects on brain activity, but such changes have never been found to relate to any adverse health effects. No consistent significant effects on cognitive performance in adults have been observed. If anything, any effect is small and exposure seems to improve performance. Effects in children did not differ from those in healthy adults. Studies on auditory and vestibular function are more unequivocal: neither hearing nor the sense of balance is influenced by short-term exposure to mobile phone signals. Subjective symptoms over a wide range, including headaches and migraine, fatigue, and skin itch, have been attributed to various radiofrequency sources both at home and at work. However, in provocation studies a causal relation between EMF exposure and symptoms has never been demonstrated. There are clear indications, however, that psychological factors such as the conscious expectation of effect may play an important role in this condition.

While I cannot argue against the results of your experiments and tried similar ones...I didn't urinate in a e-fence, I merely touched it with a piece of straw...and admittedly had the same results, I am still fascinated about a possible connection between emf and either hallucinations or outright actual manifestations of paranormal entities and felt that the outbreak of ufo that apparently started with the kenneth arnold sightings have more to do with the post ww2 build out and our immersion of emf then from having entered the nuclear age. I couldn't tell from the context of your post, did the non-results of your experiments dissade (spl?) you from any connection between emf and outright hallucinations ala albert budden OR any correlation between emf and any ufology/high strangeness period?

Edit: disregard I just reread your post.

I agree there may be some connections that we are unaware of, certainly people working for large power stations would have had the most effect from high voltage EMF.

Exo-doc, Interesting article. Apple has recommendations for safe distances from cell phones. If you keep one in your pocket at all times your testicles might be in trouble. Having worked at one time in radio I can attest to the things that can happen with a high RF signal. Just touch an antennae while it is transmitting.

The risks from stray voltage and RF transmissions seems to be a minimal risk unless you are on a cell phone all day with it on your ear.

Concerning the paranormal aspect, I see some relation to the advent of RF in many spectrums and apparent ability of some entities to drain power. The next logical assumption for me is that they might have the ability to use RF for far more than we realize and this would agree with what you say spookymulder.

I am not convinced that EMF is significant toward any serious physiological side effect, especially hallucinations. I am not unconvinced that entities can't tap into it. Having said that, you would expect more activity close to these sources would you not? And there was obviously activity before we started to use radios, electricity and cell phones. Most of the paranormal incidents we see are lower DC voltages. Maybe they can't work with AC.

Our brains cells communicate with small amounts of electricity. Our hearts beat with an electric impulse,so maybe certain kinds of electricity generated at certain frequencies would affect us more. I'm pretty sure that somewhere years ago someone has figured out what those frequencies and behaviours are,and maybe they are not the same for everyone. I don't think the things we come across typically in the modern world are specific enough to affect us to any great degree.

Spookymulder- That peeing on the fence incident didn't affect me in any long term way, the plumbing still works just fine. If you want some excitement in your life I recommend everyone try it at least once lol.
