Very interesting.

The article in New Scientist says that: "Telescopes have been picking up so-called fast radio bursts (FRBs) since 2001. They last just a few milliseconds and erupt with about as much energy as the sun releases in a month."

At first glance, this makes me think it's a natural phenomenon, regardless of the interesting pattern in the bursts. It just seems like a crazy amount of energy, even though I'm aware of the idea of Dyson spheres.

Edit: Oh, I see there's also a thread about it here: More WOW signals ? | The Paracast Community Forums

All they have to measure distance to date is the Dispersion Measure, which makes a lot of assumptions. We don't really know how far away they are. There is a related phenomenon called perytons that seems to be quite close.
