Extreme Sports - Anything Goes

I have after a brief search found that you can indeed get insurance for wingsuit flying!
I suppose where there is a will there is usually a bill :)
Freeride Downhill Biking - As If Wingsuit Piloting Wasn't Already Enough !

Beautiful cinematography !

That particular wingsuit jump is insane! Still difficult to grasp that this stuff is real!
It looks legit to me, and there are some other amazing videos of the "close proximity" version of the sport too. It looks so cool that if you're going to risk your life doing something extreme anyway, wingsuit piloting seems like the one to try  . Here's another one:

Jeb Corliss
Watch these in full screen if you can !

I am 100% sure that there is nothing faked about wingsuit flying or any of the other extreme sports out there. Personally I would not even consider wingsuit flying until some kind of propulsion system (like a mini jet engine from a cruise missile) is combined with it (so you could get out of trouble). personally if I had to choose between wingsuit flying and underwater cave diving I would take the wingsuit every single time, because the chances are: that if you have an accident your death would be quite quick, especially when compared to being stuck in an underwater cave. It gives me the shudders just thinking about it. and with wingsuit flying I imagine that the flying part would be a lot of fun.
I once saw a documentary about underground rivers that connect lakes in the south american rain forest, a team of underwater "explorers" were exploring them (underground rivers) and therefor did not know if there was a navigable route or not, and in some places it was so narrow that you could not turn around, my heart was in my mouth for the whole show, thank goodness no one was injured but i remember thinking "why don't they send an ROV* to reconnoiter the route before they set out?". what I am trying to say is that for some people a reduction in danger causes a reduction in "enjoyment" and I totally get why some one would want to "fly" but can not for the life of me understand why some one would want to be in an enclosed and hostile environment like a submerged cave. Horses for courses I suppose!

Lastly I also saw a series on "extreme" sports that featured a man with VERTIGO who climbed sky scrapers with no ropes and a man who tightrope walked across a canyon with no safety net or rope, when interviewed they both seemed quite rational and
"normal" and in a way we need people who push the boundaries, like for example the first submariners, the first aeronauts and also although it might seem funny to us today the first people to ride a train**.

*remotely operated vehicle

** it was thought that if a train entered a tunnel at high speed all of the oxygen would be sucked out of the carriage resulting in the passengers being suffocated! :)

Perhaps you've heard of Yves Rossi? He has jet wings! I also totally agree on the wingsuit versus cave diving. There seems to be so much more work involved in cave diving for such little thrill in return. Not to mention the claustrophobia and that death by drowning would totally suck even more than a spectacular crash landing. Although, a small percentage of aerial sports deaths are also due to drowning because they landed in water  ( that would be my luck ). Here's Yvess Rossi ... Jet Man  .
Jet Man versus Rally Car ... Fun!

WOW I want a go! that was amazing! :)
10/10.

I hope that in my life time they develop and incorporate a VTOL* system into this "machine**"

I am not sure what the correct term for a device like this is. Craft does not sound correct nor does vehicle? maybe equipment? or attachment? (I think "Jetpack" might be the closest but the ones I have seen had no wings, and were also in cartoons or computer games, and I have a feeling "jetpack" is like a brand name e.g. in England we call a "vacuum cleaner" a "hoover" because of brand association, or like when in America you say "band-Aid" instead of "Adhesive bandage".

If you happen to have Netflix Instant Download, check out "Birdmen: The Original Dream of Flight". These peoples' brains must be wired from a different schematic than most of us.

Yves Rossi is the guy I really envy. That has got to be an indescribable experience.

How About Some Plain Old Fashioned High Diving
Tying the World Record - Rick Charles

Not impressed at first? Wait 'till they
zoom out on the tower !

I saw the movie Birdmen today (Netflix) and it was pretty mind boggling. However, as a caver, I would do a cave dive long before jumping from a cliff. Call it a comfort zone, but I have no claustaphobia regardless of how tight and deep a cave is. But if I look over a cliff I all but poop myself
