Paranormally Disenchanted
I really enjoy Mario Bava's Planet of the Vampires. Spaceships, chicks in leather, and vampires (or whatever the hell they are.) Full of great lines like: "If there are any intelligent creatures on this planet, they are our enemies!"

The long and short of it is that I'm not enamored of the Netflix streaming feature. A few good flicks; most are junk. :(

It's new to us Canadians, and the selection is not super, but for $8 per month, I'm happy with what's there to keep me busy. If one thinks that it'll replace cable or rentals, he will be disappointed.

Shirley Jackson's Haunting of Hill House was made into "The Haunting" with Julie Harris in the 60's. Not the "new" remake but the original. Great "psycological horror" and the old dark house just scared the "yell" out of me when I was a kid. I watched it again a couple of years ago and it still works. :-)

: God! God! Whose hand was I holding?

Mrs. Dudley: We couldn't hear you. In the night.
Eleanor Lance: Do you have any idea when Dr. Markway...
Mrs. Dudley: [cuts her off] No one could. No one lives any nearer than town. No one will come any nearer than that.
Eleanor Lance: I know.
Mrs. Dudley: In the night. In the dark.
[Mrs. Dudley grins and leaves]

Luke Sanderson: [referring to Hill House] It ought to be burned down... and the ground sowed with salt

first lines]
Dr. John Markway: [voice-over] An evil old house, the kind some people call haunted, is like an undiscovered country waiting to be explored. Hill House had stood for 90 years and might stand for 90 more. Silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there... walked alone.

[last lines]
Eleanor Lance: [voice-over] Hill House has stood for 90 years and might stand for 90 more. Within, walls continue upright, bricks meet, floors are firm, and doors are sensibly shut. Silence lies steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House. And we who walk here... walk alone.

Gene I don't know what you are watching but I enjoy it greatly. I've watched "Dexter", Xfiles,"Dead Like Me." "The Office", My name is Earl, Law and Order, Countless horror and scifi movies and classic comedies. Documenteries and great cop shows and movies. Have you checked it lately? Not being a smart butt :-) But, I think you got this one wrong. :-)

Maybe he's looking at the Canadian Selection. The only TV show we have available right now that you mentioned is Dead Like Me. I am enjoying Mad Men though.

One of the creepiest, and yes .. scary films I have ever enjoyed is Phantasm.

The first time I ever saw it was on HBO about 1979 or so. It creeped me out for a couple of weeks. To this day some of those scenes still stay in my mind. At the time I wasn't sure if the action was in "real time" or later it was a dream or nightmare. If you have not yet watched it ... you owe it to yourself to check it out! Just my opinion.

I'll have to check out Phantasm ..been meaning to for years now. Thanks Don.

Possibly the downright creepiest movie I have ever seen is the original Amityville Horror film, then Exorcist 3 starring George C Scott. That film is just grim.

Walmart have a whole bunch of horror movies on sale now in their dvd bins. My wife and I just picked up Poltergeist ( watching this classic tonight ) and Carrie.

Carrie is classic in so many ways. Bye the buh I was the "one" person who acutally liked the sequel "Carrie2 The Rage." :-) Not as good as the first but I don't demand as much out of a movie as I do a good book. Just let me enjoy the popcorn and have some good action and I'm fine. :-)

But as for the original Carrie. The clothing and hairstyles alone always take me back to the seventies. It really captured that period well. Espcially for a "horror" movie. :-)

"The Haunting" with Julie Harris in the 60's.

That movie terrified me as a kid. I remember watching it alone in my room on a small portable b/w T.V. and being scared to death. I feel asleep at some point sitting up in the bed only to wake up to a screen full of snow and that hissing sound of the station which had switched off for the night. That really scared the crap out of me. A great movie that I've watched many times. Great pick!

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree that Carrie is indeed' one of the greats'. I must urge folks to see the Exorcist 3 at some point in their lives. It truly is a memorizing performance by the late great George C Scott, and is a film that really does give one the creeps. Oh, and please , please ignore the 2nd Exorcist movie. I don't know what the Hell they were thinking when they made that turkey.

And Gang, I would be remiss if I did not mention one other horror film that I saw back in the day ... right after it was released in general circulation ...

The original The Night of the Living Dead ... from 1968.

Another one that totally creeped me out .... the original zombie creep out flick.

Great thread and agree with all posts above. Don't forget the political correct Twilightoooooooooooooooooooooowha and the little ones who will be eating there trickier treats while watching Casper the Ghost and Heffalump Halloween: :) :) :) and then knocking your front door while your watching some horror movie which make you jump 10 ft and Halloween is for all ages:)
