Rap music. Poetry of the streets. Who hears it? Not mainstream America.

MC Hammer comes along with his flashy moves and parachute pants. Suddenly rap is mainstream big time. Hammer Time. Propa'.

That gets old because it wasn't what rap was born out of. Rap is poetry of the streets not a Pepsi ad. So gangsta rap comes along and....

MC Hammer is finished. He's not "keeping it real," he's "selling out." He's actually making money off of this art form. He isn't 'hood, he's corporate.

His career is burned like a witch.

Soon, the gangsta rappers realize, "Oh, snap! It sucks to be poor just to keep it real, know what I'm sayin'?--Word. Let's take 'sell out' and call it 'pimp,' so we can own mad bling."

And soon all the masses were eating up poetry from the streets that kept it real and made money and the witch hunt was over.

***

Ufology is at that middle stage.

Rap is crap.

My youngest daughter listens to "Christian" rap.

Jesus is cheezus.

Rap is crap.

Word.

Wow. That her own choice?

I remember the only people who listened to Christian metal (no such things as Christian rap in the 80s I don't think) were kids who had to, or at least couldn't listen to non-christian metal. Stryper!!!!

I'm going to have to youtube christian rap later for a laugh. Maybe the cussing gangsta preacher I posted awhile back has an album.

I listen to Underoath out of choice! I'm not christian really though.
TBh i don't know how its called christian metal because you can hardly hear any of the words anyway so its just mostly screeching to the backdrop of metal.
I just like listening to the heavy shit when i'm in the gym.... it fires me up

i went to my local record store and bought two of this guys albums....
http://au.youtube.com/matisyahuTV

saw this on MTV and was hooked.

i think every artist has a "story". i have all the classical masters on record, i have 3 different versions of the planets, ac/dc thru to zeppelin with everything including iron maiden in between. just about every record jethro tull and ian anderson made. and the same for eminem and this guy.

if you look at the lyrics and compare them, rap is simply more data faster. yodeling "i remember you -ooooooooooooooo" tells a story but its slow, rap packs more data into the space which seems to appeal to the younger generation

Wow. That her own choice?

Yup. And she's a good kid.

She's seventeen, goes to church and youth group and has a Christian punk rocker boyfriend.

I never forced religion on my kids, they chose it of their own volition.

She goes to school everyday (almost), is home at night, doesn't do drugs and I always know where she is on the weekends.

Despite the Christian thing, considering how things are nowadays, I'm grateful for how she turned out.

I don't believe the same things my kids, or my wife does for that matter and I don't force my opinions on them.

I'm the "different one" of the group.

Dude put down the bong and turn off snoop. :)

If you dig "poetry" check out a band called OTEP. Not Rap, good ol fashion ass kickery

Ah, but rap is both a mass media phenomenon and trading-mix-tapes-on-the-street phenomenon.

The mass media stage of ufology is dying a messy death, and the internet stage of ufology is having a messy birth. (Perhaps Paracast show+forum is bridge between them?)

Might be a minority opinion, but I think progress is being made, slowly. The old personality conflicts were really proxy conflicts for mass media market share. With the internet's near-nil publishing costs, that's over, period.

There's still a conflict over "mind share", but that conflict is now being played out in millions of board posts, among a community of peers. Here your respect must be earned rather conferred on you by a publisher or TV producer.

This is why I think serious ufology should just forget about "mainstream credibility". This was always just a bogus chump's game. Does this mean monkeyboy2008 is more important than Larry King? Yes, because ufology will finally establish credibility with itself, through the self-selecting and self-sorting dynamics of the internent.

Congratulations! your an actual tolerant liberal! those are VERY FEW and far between.

Most liberals are bigots in disguise.

Good for you!
