Four steps to a successfull conspiracy

  1. Find someone/group that you can get to perform the action you want to under take for you.
  2. Use an agent(s) that can't be traced back to you to encourage and to funnel funding to that person or group.
  3. Tell as few people as you can about your plot. If possible make sure the above mentioned agent(s) remains clueless.
  4. Once the action has taken place "leak" some of the details of it to known "crackpots". This way "level headed", "reasonable" people will debunk any other details of your plot that may actually get leaked for you.

Another step would be to change the narrative, either intentionally or because of sloppy reporting in a rush to get the story out.

Yes there is that. The more confusing the story the better. I thought about spreading disinformation but when I was thinking of number 4 I figured the people at this stage will be making the narrative for you. Of course I'm no criminal genius so maybe keeping on top of the narrative just might be a good idea. I just worry if you control the narrative you run the risk of tying yourself to closely to the event.

The thing about Sandy Hook for me is that it is undeniable there is an elementary school there with real pupils. How on earth could any conspiracy convince the town there that 26 were killed if they were not?

But I'm not too quick to sweep all conspiracies away. JFK and 9/11 are well dodgy.

But couldn't you also leak many different versions of events ranging from a simple shooting to more and more outrageous claims?
See, I 've wondered for years if some guys claiming stuff like "space brothers" and "the reptilian agenda" weren't purposefully mislead?

For me the whole Sandy Hooks tragedy was handled in a way that I can't make heads or tails of it. I can't really say either way. I do believe the children and adults were killed. The reporting has confused me as to the why it happened and who is responsible. Of course I don't think everything is a conspiracy but I have lived long enough to know not to blindly swallow the official story.

Yep you could leak many versions. It takes step 4 to a whole other level. With so many outrageous claims you can generate apathy and only the "crackpots" would still be interested in it. When that happens you've secured the success of you conspiracy. Or at least I would think so.

I think that the secret to any successful conspiracy is to make the truth of the situation irrelevant. Information gets out no matter what as any "skeptic" will tell you. So you just neutralize the population's desire to hear the truth in the first place. Also I should add that you should demonize the intelligent people who are the most likely to see through your ruse. More than guns "intellectuals" and "artists" are the things most feared by a corrupt state.

Now here's where I might blow your mind. Just because someone created a conspiracy that doesn't necessarily mean it was for malicious reasons. I can't think of a good example off the top of my head but I'm a big believer in the good in others so I assume that at least some conspiracies happen because it's the only way to do some good despite the beliefs of the general populace.

When I read Timothy Good's "Above top Secret" I think he was outright telling the world that some aliens were malevolent, using us as cattle, and there wasn't a damn thing any government could do about it. Therefore, the governments "in the know" were keeping knowledge and evidence away from the public because of the panic and catastrophic social upheavals it would cause. That could be one example, if true.

Yep that would be a good example if true. I always shoot for more "mundane" examples though when I discuss conspiracies. That way I feel people will be more likely to listen but I still like your example :)
