Free Will vs. Hive Behavior

I have read many stories about how 'Greys' and other visitors have exhibited a 'Hive' type of behavior. ie: non-verbal or telepathic communication, a hierarchy that is apparent in physical form (drone vs soldier eg).

Well I was wondering...
What if the human species is so interesting to other intelligent species whether they are ET or Hyper-dimensional or what have you, because we are completely unique in our possession and expression of free will. What if other intelligent species have due to circumstance evolved in hive type settings and that is the norm, and because of environmental or by just plain accident, humans evolved in the way we did unique to everyone/thing else.

Or for that matter, what if human beings are the only creatures to have what we would refer to as a soul?

Just some ramblings.

Perhaps the hive mentality is the highest form of evolution?

I still would like to know what a "soul" is. Can the term "soul" be succinctly defined? (No Motown jokes please.) :P

I don't think there is any "highest" form of evolution - it diesn't work like that. "Different" would be a better word to use than "higher".
