I've got to go with the Zeppelin. Pink Floyd edges them as my favorite group, but in terms of what Page and Plant brought to the genre, there is no other rock group that could be the "best."

I mean, stand alone riffs, heart wrenching screams, innovative recording techniques, and the inspiration of many other bands....that's the stuff of legend. (Although my all time favorite recording of any band would have to be Pink Floyd's "Live at Pompeii.")
