Skilled Investigator
Ok, so my question is this.

Over my time browsing, reading, general perusing of the internet's sections of paranormal, strangeness, etc. i always notice those people who babble on in incoherent paragraphs about consciousness and the ultimate state of being and stuff like that. i understand, i really do. we are all on an infinite plane of existence connected with each other through unseen spiritual forces that are beyond ourselves.

but what i don't understand is, why do ALOT of people who share this view speak incoherently? why is it that they cannot seem to express themselves in a way that other people can understand? do you have to make yourself look like a crazy LSD gypsy? i get it, its hard to put all those thoughts into a coherent sentence when they flood your brain all at once seemingly. but why is it that some of us can put these thoughts into feasible sentences and others just ramble on in almost psychotic fashion? i've never gotten it.

maybe this will spark an interesting conversation.

“I don't believe anything, but I have many suspicions.”
― Robert Anton Wilson

One way of interpreting these discussions is to consider their science, painful for sure, and another is to recogize that it's not about guesswork or hard and fast supposition. All language is metaphor after all anyway. Everything in these discussions are all just suspicions to begin with.

Oh, there I go not making sense at all myself. It is what it is, this consciousness thing. And it's much more interesting than we think. We're just starting to scratch at it, but we will tease it out soon enough.

...but why is it that some of us can put these thoughts into feasible sentences and others just ramble on in almost psychotic fashion?

Why? Three reasons I believe.

1. Written communication is an art form which requires both natural talent and decades of practice to master. Just because a person thinks all manner of interesting and expansive things does not mean they are able to communicate them well.

2. Consciousness, philosophy, and ontology are probably the most difficult topics in the world to discuss.

3. Some people also write the way you describe simply because that's actually what's inside their head; disordered, irrational, illogical non-sense.

you all make great points. this interests me because i think there is an actual art to expressing thoughts that are beyond words. when you can give someone a mental picture of infinity, there is something special about you. not everyone can do that, and i think it's very interesting that some people can. it's easy to write this ability off as just someone who has great communication and expression skills, but i believe there is more to it than that.

and whaddya know, here i am rambling on. haha.

So true. I run into people all the time who tell me they haven't read a book since high school or college. No wonder this world is in the shape it is in.
i agree wholeheartedly. books passed alot of time for me when i was a kid with insomnia. i remember staying up at night reading until i could not hold my eyes open anymore. i always enjoyed writing too. about six months ago i decided that i wanted to try a hobby as a freelance journalist. i've got alot of excerpts and notes and things like that written, and have even started a mystery fiction. i guess we will see where it goes...

i am hypothesizing that knowledge of literature, the English language (or whatever language one speaks natively), and an understanding of social interactions has alot to do with how someone conveys what they are thinking to others.

It's interesting and maybe a little telling to compare language expression in taped interviews done in the U.S. as compared with other English speaking countries--or sometimes even countries where English is a second language. Friends and neighbors: When it comes to expressing ideas, we are a distant second at best. The average American cannot compose what was once a high school graduate level sentence. It's not a matter of intelligence. Many of the lucidity challenged have diplomas from accredited universities and/or high level jobs. Many are at least as smart, and probably smarter, than the average bear.

Is this social convention? The failure of our educational system? Damage to Wernicke's area of the brain caused by watching reality TV?

Maybe digitization and info overload are making the finer points of language obsolete and I'm just behind the times. Dunno....

And to be fair, many of the fringe concepts we attempt to put forth here are not easily conveyed.

Maybe I should?

Please do. It's part of the ancient art of written communication. It makes people happy. It's pleasing to the human eye.

It communicates that your writing is worth the time required to read because you cared enough to make the writing aesthetically attractive.
