Holy crap... what's next ? The starfish is one of the most resilient life form (been around a half a billion years).

This really suuuuuuuuuuucks.... Probably the first of many exterminations. Can't unleash millions of RADS and expect everything is OK. Were all fucked. No more seafood for a few thousand years...Oh yeah plutonium has a half life of 80 million years. Well humans will probably evolve into bloated balls of protoplasm long before we can enjoy a good lobster again.

Can't you just see it? Future wars fought over the last remaining jar of uncontaminated baby batter. Yikes. Norman Spinrad's bizarre The Iron Dream deals with such a problem with cloning. They clone the one "genetically pure" human left to perpetuate the human race. Guaranteed to offend everyone, its a good read nonetheless.
