I think they do both . . . ask hard questions and have a slam-fest on people they have issues with. At the risk of sounding hypocritical I have to admit that the slam-fest part is often my favorite. But imagine Gene and David having thousands of targets instead of just a handful. It could tip the entire balance of the show. I just don't think they can ignore the crazy people at a level required of nationally syndicated hosts.

Plus the lawsuits that would ensue from the personal mud-slinging being aired at a national level . . . staggering.
