I attended a documentary on a local fire event on sunday

This remarkable documentary looks closely at the devastating 1957 Leura Fire, which destroyed around 170 homes, businesses, schools and churches, cutting a path through Leura and Wentworth Falls. Through interviews with survivors of the fire, combined with archival film footage of the fire's destructive path, we’ll hear first-hand from those who experienced this horrifying event and lived to tell the tale. Their stories are riveting, poignant, and at times even humorous, as an ill prepared community faced one of the blackest fire days in this state’s history.

Its worth noting not a single house was in contact with the actual fire, all of the buildings lost did so as a result of embers, which in turn started spot fires.

One fire fighter told us how a single ember came through a keyhole and set fire to the rug in the hall, which in turn destroyed the whole house.

Its a sobering reminder, than in preparing for wildfires, you must always consider the tiniest of embers as part of your strategy
