Governments Ability to Fabricate Images

Keeping in mind that the technology being utilized by the government is usually several years ahead of technology that is currently available to the commercial and private sectors, I would like to pose a question for Dave, Gene, and any of the other video / image experts on this board. With current advancements in CGI and Photo Imaging software, how far away are we from the day where the government can visually fake an incident? Actually fabricate the incident relying on visual evidence and not have to worry about the possibility of an editing "fingerprint" left behind such as missed shadows, incorrect lighting angels, etc.

Especially now since its not just an "American Government" but rather a "Global Government"... you could collaborate and make all sorts of bad a$$ hoaxes being the government. Straight up War of the Worlds on a global level.

Another question if you don’t mind. With all the significant advancements in CGI and image rendering software in the past few years, have there been equal advancements in video and imaging software to detect fabrications?

I think Hollywood can't really show its capability for the simple fact that the government needs plausible deniability.

i agree yet the cgi effects in movies are getting better and more realistic i don't think we'll be able to trust, with a true degree of belief, any media which may indeed be the government's purpose

Are you seriously suggesting that Hollywood and the CGI community is in bed with the government to suppress the true capabilities of the industry?

I don't know whether to laugh or barf. Please explain.

photos were leaked in the 70's supposebly taken from area 51 the goverment said they would give no statement on the issue. Hollywood not too long after produced some images very similar to those reported taken from area 51. The goverment's immediate response was the photos were fake...a prop for some new hollywood movie. Hopefully the goverment doesn't has the control on the media yet it wouldn't be a surprise if they did
