Paranormal Adept
Few movies suspend belief well. This movie is an awe inspiring spectacle from beginning to end the special effects while amazing take a back seat to the story of two humans trapped in a hopeless situation! George Cloony was fantastic and I will leave thoughts on sanda Bulluks performance to my wife. The story was believable and the sets and CGI all were spot on from moment one you are immersed in the story and It dose not let go until the end! GO SEE THIS MOVIE you will be glad you did!

IMAX and 3D. most of the time female leads are helpless. rare is the strong female in movies. Sandra played such a role. at 1st she was the one who needed rescueing but as time and events happen she must rely on her own resources to stay alive. the movie was great. I enjoyed it! I join my husband in telling all here to see it!

A review on IMDb is rave - though I'm well aware they can be 'plants', still - I'll see it -

""The best space film ever done" - James Cameron

"Indeed the best space film ever done. This film transports you to space in every cinematic way possible. The visual effects are so brilliantly executed it makes you wonder if they shot part of it in space. Incredibly effective long takes throughout the film bring the realism and suspense that none other space film has ever done before. The acting is subtle and engaging. Sandra Bullock deserves another Oscar after this as well as best director for Alfonso Cuaron and Cinematography for Emmanuel Lubezki. I can't recommend this film enough. Ground breaking, beautiful and technically perfect. Film schools will be studying this film in the future."

I saw it a few hours ago. I highly recommend it.

Same here. We saw it today - even in 3D - which I usually avoid. Well worth it. Brilliant. Spaceship Earth never looked so good.

And in answer to the unspoken question - Sandra Bullock is looking very fit, indeed.

So if we had to pick 2D or 3D only, which one should we pick?

Honestly, this was the first 3D film I have seen where I wasn't at all aware that I was viewing a 3D film. Before the film started we were shown 3D trailers for 'The Hobbit' and 'Thor' - where the 3D was painfully obvious imo. Not so with 'Gravity'.

I'd say - go with 3D if you intend to see it only once in the theater.

We are talking about seeing it once more - not in 3D - just to see what the difference is.

Thanks :) . We'll check it out in 2D, and then if it's worth buying, we'll get the 3D disk for home when it comes out.

So we saw Gravity at the Eye Max in 3D. There was no other option than 3D here in Calgary yet. It was spectacular. Real science fiction in the traditional science fiction sense ( as opposed to science fantasy ). The movies Crash and The Lake House are other good films with Bullock. Though this may be her best role yet.

there is only ONE space movie done better and that one was...

Yes I said it this movie is right next to THE all time BEST space move ever made...
While I love Kubrick's work, I would not identify it as the best ever. Like The Tree Of Life, 2001 moves into the realm of the mystical human experience; whereas, Gravity tried to explore this new human physical experience of space travel on practical terms, where our medium is not air nor water. I enjoyed greatly the action in space, the new ways of thinking and being in the inky vacuum, and how we may be evolving into star children as Kubrick and Clarke explored in 2001. In this movie we may in fact find out that coming into and out of the medium of space is going to be as transformative for our species as crawling up out of the watery mud and sludge to stand on our two feet.

Though right after the adrenalin rush of Gravity I have to confess my very first thought was, "hmmmm, i'd really like to see 2001 in 3-D" (as Stanley rolls over in grave).

Woo - I didn't get any of that from the film. In fact several friends have mentioned that this film likely dealt a body-blow to the idea of space exploration.

This was the report from one friend: Took kids to see Gravity 3D today. Timmy: "I am now inspired to never go into outer space." Response: "Yeah, that's what I'm taking away from that movie, too."

Not to give away any spoilers but I thought the movie effectively identified the new human leadership experience of humans operating in space. It is a medium new to our species; we are changed by our time spent in it. I think it's @boomerang who frequently mentions some of the personality and psychological alterations that follow for many of the astronauts. I thought this movie was all about us cutting the cord from earth, as a dominant image motif throughout the movie. In this amniotic image:

we see her getting ready to be reborn. Her resilience that is developed across the movie, for me, was about both humanity's resilience in space travel, no matter the losses and tragedies, as well as our resolve to continue to go to that new medium and explore. The many sequences of her swimming through space and then swimming back to land were all about our varying relationships to gravity.

She who can survive birth in space and rebirth at sea, and then can demonstrate the ability to still walk on land confirms the diverse capacity and tenacity of the human being. We are explorers of all mediums and gravity will not get in the way.

I thought this movie was a total celebration of space travel and human destiny.

I did find that scene very curious - very 'in-utero-like', yes. I was puzzled by it but saw it as a salute to '2001: A Space Odyssey', actually.

Any good allusion always integrates ideas into the existing narrative as opposed to just a stand alone thought. This movie's narrative construction is designed with purpose from start to close.

;) I commend you on your attention to the film's construction. I was more in awe of Ms Bullock's 50 year old body. She is one year shy of being 50. Impressive.
