Thought I'd wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

Hopefully everyone has a good day with friends and family. I unfortunately am working at home today.

Don't feel bad, you aren't the only one. I also am working at home alone...on art that I may or may ever make a buck off of. I'm probably the only guy on the block eating crawfish and turtle gumbo for Thanksgiving. I guess that's the price of freedom. Now comes that long, miserable march towards Christmas. That joyous time of year when I become acutely aware of just how much of a bum my family thinks I am because I can't afford to buy their kids a bunch of lead contaminated shit from China. 'Tis the season to dance little consumer-monkeys.

Maybe all you artists could post some of your art prior to Christmas. I would rather have some art than more stuff this year. Skunkape I will be in Arlington Texas this year for Christmas so let me know what kind of art you have for sale and maybe some exchange could work out. I also don't know how far you are from Arlington.

I am also at home for Thanksgiving because the alternative seemed too stressful.

New Years is just around the corner and then we can all relax. I don't like ths time of year pesonally.

Check out the "Art" thread. There are a few things up there. Tommy Allison could probably go in to business making cool saddle-bags.
I think Arlington is a good 2 1/2 hour drive from Austin...not really sure what I'll be doing for Jesus' birthday. I can't plan that far ahead. I'll warn you before hand, my oil paintings are expensive. I would be more than happy to trade art for goods, but many people don't seem to understand that a painting I've worked on for months has more value than a print from a Thomas Kincaid gallery...I've traded sketches for beer.

Art is a funny thing.

Real Art, is not bought by the average person. In fact, the only Original Art I've sold has been to companies, and collectors who pay a premium for an original, as opposed to the going rate for an off the shelf piece of mass produced art.

Feeling sorry for yourself about how you don't get paid, is the first step to staying broke, and angry.

Your ideology should be one of doing the art for yourself, and not for consumption by the masses. If someone likes it, so be it. If nobody likes it, get an agent to sing your praises.

Nobody you know, is going to pay you what you think you are worth. You spend a lot of time being broke and worried when you start out in this business, and either you start selling, or you start getting another job and doing something else.

Right now, the market is such that artists, no matter how popular are taking a hit.

Just wait til after Obama gets into office. I promise you, you haven't seen hard times until you see what's coming.

Do your best with what you've got, and if you need to get a real job, do so.

Happy Puritan/Pilgrim Survival Day folks, without which our present society probably wouldn't exist.

I hope everyone had the chance to spend it with family and friends, which I thankfully did.

For those of you who worked, I hope you profited from your labors and wish you good fortune.

It was just a thought and I understand 2 1/2 hour drive is a ways. My mother has an art degree. Some artists have affordable items for the public. I will look at the art thread.

I do make prints of some of my painted work, as well as castings of my sculpture work which are cheap enough for the average person. If you have that ability, you have the means to generate revenue.

Hope that helps Skunkape.

Tommy your work is awesome too.

Skunkape,
If you ever make prints of The UFO, George, pipe, eye of providence, chicken and egg, snake painting I will buy one. If you have more art you want to show please add to the art thread.

Get a copy of photoshop, and a good flatbed scanner. Scan it in pieces, and then re-assemble in photoshop. Then, make prints.

I took a 12 pound poop and I think that was enough to put me back to normal.

Seriously though, I didn't over-eat. I spent my holiday alone, and working while the wife was at her mom's. All in the name of making ONE customer happy.

Chances are, he won't give two shits about my effort.

I was very fortunate and lucked into being able to spend the week in Mexico. And I spent Thanksgiving exploring Chichen Itza. Truly a spectacle. No turkey though, just Yucatan pork and habanero chili salsa. The guide told us the chili hurts twice. He was right.
