Hey Don, some interesting information on Facebook.

It seems Facebook has become almost mandatory right now from wanting to see updates from Don on DRM other then here on the Paracast forums to all the way to requiring a person to have Facebook account to enter a contest now a days. Ever wonder where all of you personal information, likes and posts on Facebook go?

Gives a stark evaluation of the implications of having a Facebook account. If even half of that information is true it should make you reevaluate you voluntarily handing over all of your information to Facebook and all of the third parties it shares i with.

Why not post to good old message boards like here on the Paracast and blog rather then a global data mining and sharing service like Facebook.

So Don for us that don't want Facebook accounts please start posting to your old Dark Matters Blog.

I was telling people years ago to stay away from Face Book for just these reasons as you could see the beginnings of this with other social network sites before Face book came along.
I guess I am just to old school net and anon but I really do not like Face Book etc, the point is its not free people they sell your personal information and its a security agencies wet dream.

However if you don't mind that all your personal information becomes the property of a corporation to sell and do what it wishes with, for their financial gain and not yours then be my guest.

For me I will stay the hell away from it.

But if you want to try a social network like Face Book but with a lot less risk etc then try Diaspora DIASPORA* ALPHA

Is anything we do online really private anymore? Even if it's not I suppose networks like facebook only magnify this lack of privacy. And to top it off they essentially claim what is rightfully yours to be there's, which is extra creepy and they should be boycotted for this nonsense.

Best thing I did on this topic was to close my FB account about 3 years ago. It's little more than another mechanism of distraction disguised as a way to connect us.

In the lunch room at my work, basically for a full hour, all females at my work are on smart phones, checking facebook and texting eachother. I must have seemed really old and out of touch when I expressed surprise that a 17 yr old colleague was exchanging texts with a friend as they were both on the way to work at 07:15. What on earth do they need to say to eachother at that time? This is every day! I owned a cellphone as soon as they were really available, I've grown up through all the incarnations, I use apps and text, but I swear younger people have got it really bad.
I genuinely have concerns that all our technology is isolating people socially like never before in a physical sense. FB is like a surrogate social life for some.

Well, long time Paracasters may recall an expose I conducted on one of your countrymen, a guy passing himself off as a "Bishop" in "the Old Catholic Church faith" with the added bonus of being one of Europes formost " Vampire hunters." Yes, you heard me ... a genuine, stake driving, cross waving .. vampire hunter named Sean Manchester.

So, what has me all pissed off? Well I conducted an investigation into this Ass Hole, wrote it all up and then the screaming, whining, sniveling and tears began to flow. This, by the way was several years ago and .. as a matter of fact posted most of it here on The Paracast. Well, as it turns out ... this phony shithead also has had a long "love affair" with Nazi's. Yep, you know ... the swastika waving goose-stepping nazi's. So ... anyway I post a couple of ... now pay close attention gang ... I post a couple of "news clippings" taken from a UK newspaper in this forum on this guy ... and he screams to FB claiming copyright violations, and those dumb FB bastards suspended me for 24 hours. Well, fwiw I counter-filed but we will see what if anything happens.

Pissed off ... oh yeah I am pissed off.

It's no secret I am anti-religion quite strongly, well if they keep their place, which is out of other people's business, that's fine. But they don't.

There was a thread couple months back which involved the current pope and I am not going to comment on him but the Catholic Church did not come out of WWII smelling of roses, that's for sure.
Also, the 'sin' of the sexual abuse by SOME priests was compounded by the near-succesful efforts to cover it up and move guilty priests around like pieces on a chessboard - 'Well, they probably don't know what Father Diddler did TO his last flock so he should be fine. Til it starts up again. We must have a word with Father Diddler. It can't happen again. He can't get caught again........etc'
Yes, I am being unfair on the undoubtedly many good catholic priests but really the vatican blew any chance of looking like they cared when they admitted not kicking out - and having police charges brought against - guilty priests.

So, this idiot Sean - he complains about copyright infringement on behalf of some newspapers? My, what a public-spirited bloke he must be....

Take note Gogg, I said "Old Catholic Church", not Roman. Actually there is the Old Catholic faith and when I was investigating the "Highgate Vampire Case" where this wack-job Manchester popped up I located those folks here in the US and spoke to several different centers. There was no record of this guy anywhere. He is simply a very loud, verbal con-artist and cyberstalker. Gene had a taste of how this moron operated. For a bit Manchester was on here until he was banned. FWIW.

I feel bad because I honestly don't care for anybody to know anything I've ever posted on facebook. I mean that's why I posted on a social website. Am I a bad person because I really don't think it's that big of a deal?
