DETNEWS | Weblogs | Henry Payne's Sketchbook

Posted by Henry Payne (<!---->The Detroit News<!---->) on Tue, Aug 11, 2009 at 12:17 AM Sen. Debbie Stabenow, Energy Leader (National Review, 08.10.09)

Detroit, Mich. - Michigan just experienced its coldest July on record; global temperatures haven't risen in more than a decade; Great Lakes water levels have resumed their 30-year cyclical rise (contrary to a decade of media scare stories that they were drying up due to global warming), and polls show that climate change doesn't even make a list of Michigan voters' top-ten concerns.

Yet in an interview with the Detroit News Monday, Senator Debbie Stabenow (D., Mich.) - recently appointed to the Senate Energy Committee - made clear that fighting the climate crisis is her top priority.
"Climate change is very real," she confessed as she embraced cap and trade's massive tax increase on Michigan industry - at the same time claiming, against all the evidence, that it would not lead to an increase in manufacturing costs or energy prices. "Global warming creates volatility. I feel it when I'm flying. The storms are more volatile. We are paying the price in more hurricanes and tornadoes."

And there are sea monsters in Lake Michigan. I can feel them when I'm boating.

she is partly correct. climate change is very real. but the climate has been far worse long before man stepped foot on this planet. planet change is also very real. those frikken dinosaurs and their emissions really screwed things up. continents continue to drift even to this day.

It's not about being dumb. It's about an agenda. An agenda to fuck people over by taxing them to death. I think they know exactly what they're doing - create a problem and throw a ton of money at it. It's all about taxes and control.

Problem, Reaction, Solution.

Obaama followers will do whatever He asks. for He is the Savior... oh yes... and Al Gore.

Yeah I'm sure it would be completely good if we had McCain and , gulp, ... Palin. Then we'd be teaching creationism in the schools and how the sun is responsible for everything. Or is it the Earths orbit, or global warming is good, or wait, no, ... I forgot ...it's not happenning at all, yeah thats it. Another ongoing excuse for not being or even wanting to be responsible in any sense of the word.

Thats said, some of her comments are absurdly stupid.

i take it you believe there is a difference between the left and right. why is it that if someone disagrees with obama they are either a racist or a republican?

it is no coincidence that you think this way. let me guess, you are all for Democracy too.

gulp, ... Palin.

I voted for Palin. Gumby for President!

Yeah, that's right. It's basically a one party system. For 8 years the republicans got to rob the people and fuck this country every way and now it's obamacrats - under the slogan of 'global warming reduction' or 'healthcare reform'. It's all a sham. Give these people more power and they'll fuck you even more. Just look at the Chicago mayor - what a scumbag.

I do find the messianic worship of Obama quite amusing. Wonder how long that will last.

Aside, isn't there supposed to be a monster in lake Michigan? I remember reading that somehwere ages ago... forget the name though...

:) My only concern about the global warming debate - other than the possibility of acquiring seafront property :D - is that if it's shown beyond a reasonable doubt that mankind is not contributing in any great way to the change in climate, & that we're in some sort of naturally occuring cycle, that some folks in authority will then conclude that people don't have more than a negligible effect on the breathable quality of the air, or the drinkable quality of the water, & act accordingly based on those assumptions . . . ::)
