I wondered if they'd come up with a whole new language or had just mimicked another. This falls in line with the languages literally created for the Lord of the Rings saga.

I'd love to learn it, but I'm old enough that my linguistic capabilities are probably shot.
 
Everything in the film was pretty much made from scratch, according to a rather good feature article on Cameron that appeared in the New Yorker magazine in the October 19th issue. This includes the language.
