First of all, let me apologize for any gramatical errors; English is not my first language. Besides that, it's 1.30 AM here, I'm tired and confused. But I had to get this out of my chest. Sorry about the text wall too.
I've never had any strange encounters or anything like that. I do enjoy the subject, since I'm always reading a book or two about UFOs at any given time, but never had anything happened directly to me.
As an exception to that rule, I'm certain I experienced an "out of body" state 4 or 5 times during my 31 years life, but even that can not be classified as an encounter, despite being strange.
Having said that, this past weekend I met my mother and sister at my beach apartment. I live in an island in the south of Brazil (Florianópolis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) and got a 1 week vacation from my Estate Government job. Thought it was a good idea to spend 1 or 2 nights at the beach, so I invited them (mom, sister, brother in law) and met them there along with my wife and 3 year old daughter.
They went on Friday, but I only went on the next day, Saturday, for lunch. I noticed something was not perfectly right with them, but thought it was only a temporary feeling, so I didn't ask what it was. After the BBQ, my sister came to me and said something had happened the night before. I asked what it was and she described something, at least, unusual.
Let me say, first, that it's a 2 story apartment. On the lower floor are located the bedrooms, kitchen and dining room. ON the upper floor, the whole area is a big living room, no walls separating sofas from the TV or the fireplace or the jacuzzi, nothing, just a big open space and a separate bathroom. This is because I had it recently renovated, about a year ago. Before the renovation, I used to rent the place during the summer season, but decided it was my time to enjoy the place, so I made the upper floor just the way I wanted.
So, back t0 my sister's story. She said the three of them (37 years old sister, her husband and my mom) were at the upper floor. She was reading a book on the big armchair we have, resting her feet on a foot rest in front of the chair. My mom was right beside her, reading a magazine, and my brother in law was 3 meters away from them, laying on a hammock.
They all felt the urge to temporarily leave the place - my mom went to the bathroom and my brother-in-law went to the other bathroom downstairs; my sister went downstairs for a glass of water after the 2 had left. My sister was the first to go back up to the armchair, and when she got there, she noticed the foot rest was upside down, but at the exactly same place it was before. It was not as if it had rolled sideways (which would be already strange), it was as if someone had lifted it up and put it down upside down. She noticed that because of the feet marks on the carpet. Kinda like this one
When the other 2 got there, she asked laughing who had done it. And, as you can imagine, neither her husband nor my mom admitted doing it, specially because they said they had gone to the bathroom before she left the place, and they both came back after her.
Well, she told me the story and I was not at all impressed. I thought they might've been wrong about the foot rest, maybe someone knocked it over, I don't know, but it didn't impress me. However, my wife was kinda scared, I would say.
My plan of spending the night there was compromised, however, because I got a call from my downtown condo saying there was some kind of water leak. SO we three - me, my wife and daughter - went back downtown, and the other 2 would spend 1 more night there.
When we were about to pick up our stuff to come back downtown, my wife went up the stairs and was petrified. She called me "Please, come here, there's someone on the corner of the room!". I went upstairs running as hell and, frankly, saw nothing. The lights were off when my wife went there, so I thought maybe she had seen the lamp from a strange angle and it looked like a person or so. AS I said, there was nothing there the moment I was upstairs. SO I turned on the lights and we proceeded to pick up our stuff to go back.
I should remind you that this was the first time I was at the apartment after the renovation was complete, a year ago or so.
SO I was picking up everything, backpack, wife's purse, etc., and I found an envelope which read "to the owner". Thiking that it was something old or unimportant, I put it with the rest of the small stuff in the backpack and went downstairs. I was saying goodbye to my sister, mom and husband, but I was not finding my sister. My brother in law, then, climbs the spiral staircase halfway, and says, looking up: "Nanda (my sister's name), they're leaving, come and say goodbye". I was confused - I was just there and there was no one there anymore. And I said "Are you sure she's upstairs?" and he goes "Yeah, I just saw her sillouette upstairs". Right after that, my sister opens the door of one of the bedrooms downstairs and says "ok guys, see you tomorrow, bye bye".
My brother-in-law's jaw hits the floor and he says "Huh? Weren't you upstairs?" "No, I was in the bedroom changing", she said. We could all feel the tension in the air, of course. He, being very smart not to alert the ladies, who would probably just scream like hell and never sleep again anywhere in the world, says "Well, ok, then, I must have been confused". But when we're alone he turns to me and says "I really, REALLy, saw someone or something upstairs that moment. I was a silouette of a person, I'm almost positive. I wouldn't call for her looking up if I didn't think she was there".
I think "well ok, this is getting too strange for me, I'm glad I'm leaving". But they all insist they're staying there.
Anyway, the next day, unpacking my stuff back home downtown, there's that envelope I wrote about before. I open it and it was a notice from a previous renter of my beach apartment, before the renovation. I KID YOU NOT. And it said something like "I'm sorry to tell you this, I don't even know if you believe in this kind of things, but... how can I say...oh well, here it goes: There's a "spirit" on your upper floor".
As I write this, I feel uncomfortable, really. I know it may seem like I made it up, but I positively guarantee you that this is not an invention of my part.
Let me go on, there's one more thing. The next day, my mom and sister left the apartment too, and tonight I went to my sister's house to celebrate my brother-in-law's birthday, just the 6 of us again. She told me quite moved that the next day, after I left, the same thing happened AGAIN to the foot rest by the fireplace armchair. And she said that, this time, they were all upstairs. My brother-in-law was in the hammock taking a nap (2 or 3 meters away from the foot rest), my sister was in the sofa (4 or 5 meters) watching TV, and my mom was reading in one of the other sofas. No one heard a sound, they didn't see anything... my sister just happened to get off the couch to see what was her husband doing, and when she walked by the fireplace, the foot rest was upside down again.
She then said "Husband, you must thing I'm a fool, are you trying to scare me?" and he wakes up to say "What are you saying? I was sleeping, what happened". Really, no one had seen anything.
Now I sit here by my computer writing this stuff for the past half an hour, possibly. I feel unconfortable, I don't want to go back to the beach apartment. I'm thinking that maybe there's something odd happening there?! I don't know. The 2 times it happened my brother-in-law was just by the foot rest, and there was the sillouette thing, maybe there's someone or something trying to comunicate with him? I really don't know.
I've lost my father 11 years ago and he was the one who bought the place, and really loved it. He's plan was to retire and move there. My brother-in-law's birthday was on that Sunday, and my father really loved him too. Maybe there's something to do with it? Maybe my father was trying to call for our attention? What could be the catalyst? I mean, if there's really something there?
I'll tell you that there's no way that foot rest could be upside down, not once but twice, in the exactly same spot. It's heavy. It's stable. Really, I'm lost, don't know what to think. I took pictures of the place and saw nothing unusual in the images.
Just wanted to share the story with you. Thanks. Any help is appreciated and I could answer anything you ask.
